Looks good like! Its a shame getting a decent soundcard is so fucking expensive mind.

I have an Audio Kontrol 1, and that costs 225 quid in the UK! (I got mine free with a Maschine) And only 2 stereo channel outputs as well. Given that the average Wave file from beatport is standard CD quality then (and i might be showing my ignorance here), I'm not so sure that something so 'audiophile grade' is entirely necessary? Even though i consider my dj setup quite 'stripped down' since i got rid of my DJM800, its still alot of wonga once you've shelled out for a controller and the software.

.... so not so sure about the new soundcard they are pimping.

Always good to see the software updated tho, although samples don't interest me that much (if sample deck are indeed a feature), unless they are warped to the tempo of the track playing (which i assume they are).

It's only expensive for laptops, a decent desktop soundcard isn't that bad.

I got a Creative Audigy 2 ZS (including the breakout box with all the midi, digital and optical inputs/outputs) on ebay for £40. Best card I've ever used.

I've got it in a Shuttle PC, so I'm half tempted to carry that round with a flatscreen instead of a laptop ;)

I dunno why, but i seem to be leaning towards wanting to get the Pioneer one.

It will no doubt do less than the S4, and be updated less often, but i think the CDJ type layout is interesting me a bit more (I don't like how its hard to mix from other sources using 'traditional' beatmatching. Plus that laptop 'gap' underneath it, will be a much better footprint for whereever i dump it.

Hopefully there will be some reviews out soon, since the Pio ships in the next fortnight apparently.

the only think with the pioneer option is that it comes with the oldest software by the looks of things, the S4 software and the new scratch pro software look a lot better, so kinda puts me off a little bit. plus it's not very handy for taking to gigs

think i'll go for the new scratch pro and X1 controller, unless it's very very expensive

i'm not too fused about controllers. I've got an xone 4d but prefer to use the timecode vinyl's. The 4d does come in handy for effects and loops etc though.

Depends what you like doing really. I used to love my vinyl decks, but once I tried a controller and started playing with loops and effects it just became too addictive and sadly my vinyl had to go. Well actually I kept one deck for my archive of vinyl - a Vestax PDX2000 for DJHostileViruseseses benefit

yea i'd be going down the timecode vinyls/cdj route, just using the controller for the effects more than anything

Just thought i would let you all know if anyone is wanting an S4 we have 1 Left in stock in the store!! Haven't been able to get a demo unit in yet for people to play with due to the mass demand for these units. I personally think the Pioneer units are too late. If people are wanting to keep up to date with the new Traktor Software then the only way is buy the Kontrol S4 or map your own controllers to the extra features.

As for the new traktor software it is going to be announced VERY soon ;) Keep an eye out on our news blog -

We will obviously get this in for demo in store if people want to check it out locally. Also i have seen the spec and details on the new software and you will certainly not be disappointed.

Apparently the pioneer unit feels a bit plastic like - I did some more research yesterday and it put me off a bit.

Also they seem to keep going on about how its not a 'pro' product in their marketing - obviously they need to keep their CDJ2000 and DJM2000 customers happy, especially so that its harder and harder to justify spending thousands and thousands of pounds to buy what looks like very buggy hardware (loads of errors in the firmware and with vbr mp3 files etc etc).

Westend DJ in Totenham Court road have an S4 demo unit and i had a play on it - Feels very nice. Gotta say tho having a little look around is showing some other very interesting prospects as well - notably the XONE:DX which is only 750 quid as well.

... i suppose its great we have so much variety these days. The old CDJ1000 and nothing else years were boring as hell - Its no wonder i sold mine when i realised that just being able to mix one track into another one was not going to get you very far in life!

excellent stuff!! i'll keep having a peek at the blog and will be there for a demo as soon as it's available [IMG] any idea on prices for the new software? i'm hoping it's not too expensive so that the price of that plus an X1 controller is around the same figure as an S4

I have been gobsmacked by the S4. Favourite feature must be the loop recorders - you just press a button, it records the length of loop you select and then its ready for you to play over the track in milliseconds. Unbelievable! I keep finding myself DJing but remixing stuff on the fly - badly at the minute, havent got the hang of adjusting volume to suit before I press play, doh! But its soooo much fun. Best thing is it then stores your loop ready to call on whenever you want in the future.
