    Cables...

I've just got a new VAIO and I want to shift all my old files over from my desktop which is knackered apart from the hard drive...

I can't see a SATA input anywhere on the unit, so what kind of cable will I need to transfer all my old stuff?

Also, I want to clean install Vista because it's come with a load of bloatware - I didn't have any installation disks with the laptop, how do I go about doing this?

    Cheers... :)

you won't get a 'clean' version of Vista disks - just their OEM version. you'll have to un-install everything u don't want. Also, the key u get on the sticker on the bottom won't let you download a copy of the tittyweb then use that to install it.

Also, your hard disk won't just plug in to the laptop, you'll probably have to either get a Sata HD USB caddy or attach it someone else's PC and burn it onto DVD's - thats probably the simplest way.

I may be being naive here, but I still have a working PSU, if I plug this in won't it provide power for the HD, or does it all need to be hooked up to a working motherboard to regulate supply etc?

There's about 200gb so transferring through DVDs isn't ideal..

i suppose, if the old PC is together still and when it powers on, it powers up the drive then yes, it should work.
