Amusing Pub names... Theres loads about like, Just drove past a pub in springwell village called the perseverance....... It was closed down.
I heard on the radio the other day that the Seaton Carew has changed it's name to Seaton Canoe after that John Drwin bloke
Raffles.. Admitantly not that funny. However moons ago when someone drove a car through it the boardings had the graffiti of 'Raffles Drive through' on it, and i still titter every time i circle the roundabout. I think I read some where that the Queens Arms is the most common in England, or was it the Golden Lion.. Google! --- Pubs have the names they do because King Richard II passed an Act making it compulsory for pubs and inns to have a sign in order to identify them to the official Ale Taster. (about 1400 AD).. same site reckons the Crown is the most common (discounting weatherspoons) Wish I had had google years ago when I loved speed!
There's one where i've just moved to (Harpenden) called The Cock Makes me giggle at least 9 times a day
