detox has always been about harder beats in the MAIN room

its that ethos which has sustained it for 9 years

but...I think i know which dj played too hard and james is correct "IF" the point he is making is the speed of the music was too fast for that early in the night.

on the flip side tho, if only old skool and techno genuinely pulled punters in newcastle then we would have cleared 1000+ punters and no independent local dance event has come close to doing that at the uni in many many many years

The oldschool was busy when vinyl Groover was on did not catch Mark E.G.'s set the night would of made more sense with rat pack on in that room it would of encouraged them to play more oldschool as well.

The problem is no with oldschool dj's are not playing classic sets but alway want to play new stuff instead of what they are booked to play.

For me the locals played better oldscool sets than some of the guests, Ed Real and kutski being exceptions. i am baised though and picky with my oldschool.

As for the techno room Rossy, James Wilson and john rowe had it rocking it and it sound great as well (biased again) just people did not seem to know where it was. BUt john set at the end was really good just wished more poeple would of ventured, but he was up against Bass Generator (Did he play a 1991 to 1993 set) as poeple said was Hardstlye and bouncy Techno.

I seriously dont know why everything to do with set style and genre has to be over analysed to death these days

old skool, techno , hard dance who cares, IF its good you dance, if its not you dont dance and just move from room to room as the mood takes you FORKS STYLE.

theres a great tendency for people to "bum" local djs and whilst theres no denying some of them play great sets they dont fill BIG venues

if they did we could put on 40 local djs , make a mint and retire to the seychelles - but it just aint reality.

theres no one likes the old school more than me but in my honest opinion it DOES not consistently fill a big venue and does not have the same appeal to todays clubbers as it did to the 30 something misty eyed ravers of yesteryear , many of whom although they wax lyrical about how "wouldnt it be great to relive that REZ 10 night again when we dropped those 25 quid e's that kept us up for 2 days" would struggle to find a babysitter these days let alone show an inclination to even step foot on a dancefloor as they are too busy paying their mortgages and bringing up their families to even care any more.

if anyone thinks differently they should try and then show me that a massive old school lineup would do the business

yeah Melt that's what I meant - I just think some DJ's need a sense of occasion / need to learn how to warm-up a room properly

At detox the oldschool was busy all night the point i am making is why bill things as oldschool sets is the dj's don't play them it leaves poeple disappointed. Even though everyone makes the most of night and get on with it.

Your right oldschool does not fill big venues up here at the moment, though regeneration did well on numbers, but size is not eveything and to be honest i prefer i party with a good atmosphere with 50-100 poeple dancing than one with a 1000 and everyone just standing a round wanting to watch mixmags favour of the month.

The last detox was good because you could wonder about and hear different styles all night

Just sticking up for oldschool here and the fact dj's should play it if they are down to on a flyeror a least a variation of it.

If i was booked to play Techno i would not bring a breaks set with me.
