    O is a letter,not a number

why do people say 'O' when they read out say perhaps a phone number when 'O' is actualy a letter?

    it should be 'Zero'

well actually i think you will find it is acceptable to say it both ways, but to be more informal, or when you write it you can use the phonetic alphabet (see pic). It is colloquial (slang) term, as it is monosylabic rather than polysilabic as in ze-ro. we english are lazy so say it the easy way.:D
