    i think i have a point anyway :p

they are booking DJs now that promise couldnt half fill a club with, and shindig will PACK the place.
now, that mean its got something to do with people going just becasue its shindig, or foundation on a saturday, and not just for the music.
im not saying that its you lot who do that, cos i know you all go for the music. im saying that other people do it....
and im not attacking shindig, cos i htink its an amaznig club, and does very good things for the NE music culture.

anyway, this is all off the point of the topic..... :) :)

and so fuck if peeps dont know much about the music. its easy on the ear if ya not into it anyway and they see it as being better than the fuckin boat or bigg market surrounded by daft cunts who want to kick your fucking head in.

people go to shindig cos its agood nice relaxed easy goin atmosphere. you can sit and talk to anyone in there and youll get a convo.

but ive never been to hed kandi so i cant comment on that. :D :D

The problem with a lot of small nights is that they are midweek, or on a Sunday. Most people unfortunately have to work (unless you are a scruffy student!), and so find it difficult to go out regularly during the week. Yes, a few work like Hed Kandi, but they are the exception that proves the rule.

shindig is constantly busy because its foundation and it's saturday - when most ppl in newcaslte go out.
as revel said - the music is changing from house to prog - not even good prog either ;) - but it will still consistently be busy.

jambon> one point for your answer :D

Can see your point totally Si most of the people that go to Shindig are very musically educated and appreciative, but seem not much more musically educated than the people that go to Promise/Crasher and erm...... Sundiss

But I do know quite a few people from round where I live that do simply go to Shindig because it seems to be the 'in' thing. Dont know if this is reflective of the whole Shindig crowd but it is the case with the handful that I know.

I have only been to Shindig about 4-6 times. Only once @ foundation all the other times @ The Riverside. I have never enjoyed it.
But it is the BEST club Newcastle has ever had FACT! I love Newcastle & the Shindig team have done Newcastle proud for 11 years now, WELL DONE LADS!!!!!!!!

cos its a good night out. dont have to worry tossers ruinin your night lots of fit sexy birds good age range drink late licence.

but also shindigs massive reputation as bein a quality night out. i dont thin its cos its cool or the place to be like hed kandi is at the moment but cos you cant go wrong if ya know nowt about the tunes but want a class night.

places like promise and other harder styled music nights dont appeal to anyone really unless they are into tat sound whereas anyone can go to shindig and not feel like they've been assaulted with a mell hammer get pissed maybe pull but feel like theyve had a good night. :D :D :D

my name is bling bling :D

People do go to Shindig just to relax whether they listen to the music or not whereas you can't really do that in Promise because you're very aware that there is hard music on. Thats where Promise's luck with filling the place has ran out.

Small nights have huge competition at the moment. Not many make a name for themselves .

people want to relax and chill when havin a drink. house is good for this. whereas trance and harder can make you feel uncomfortable in a bar specially if its too loud. :D

its all true about people wanting to go cos its chilled etc.....

but when they book prog it wont be chilled....and they will still fill it, and promise couldnt :(
its all about reputation (ie its the place to go on a saturday night :))

i wish more people would venture to smaller nights... :(

True....I love my trance dont get me wrong but when having a few warm up drinks I do like a bit of soulful house Stereo style. Trance/Hard house isnt really bar music IMO

james you're not half talking some shite today.

what do you base that statement on anyway???

ppl might go to shindig regardless of who's on because they know they're pretty much guaranteed a good night and dont have to know whether the DJ is good/mediocre or funky/deep/tribal/whatever because its always good. that's called reputation.

half the problem we're on about here is down to dance music snobbery, genres narrowed to a pin point, my sub-sub-genre is better than your sub-sub-genre blah blah blah.

Most people, incl me, who go clubbing are going for a night out and a laugh with their mates, not to focus exclusively on the music (never mind an occasional botched mix). Another new small night bashing out hard trance nu-nrg bosh is gonna appeal to about 12 ppl max.

I think the mistake a lot of people make is putting on nights that they and their totally-into-the-music mates would like, instead of a night that a couple hundred other people with different tastes might want to go to. It's a commercial venture at the end of the day, not an extension of having ya mates round and banging some tunes out at max vol. innit :p
