Sunday Trading DJ Competition

I think it is a damn good idea though. Gave me a massive confidence boost when I won (not to mention a crate of stella aswell!!!) even if it was just because my mates voted for me.

Actually on the day, all me mates voting forms that I saw were fair to everyone else aswell.

I was well on the way both times I played. First time it was a good thing, second time too much happened at once and I couldn't stop shaking and it fucked me up.

Ultimately, DJing is a popularity contest, which is why the voting has been done this way.

You could be as good as Sasha, but if no-one turns up to hear you play, promoters won't book you. Simple as that.

BOB has got the point totally. The whole idea of being a dj is to entertain people. And an entertainer won't get anywhere if he can't get a crowd.

The competition can be taken two ways - a bit of fun or quite seriously.

If it's a bit of fun and a chance to play in public that suits me down to the ground. Sunday Trading was always about giving people a platform for their talent. When we first started there were no opportunities for people to play unless you could break into honoured dj circles by knowing someone. So we fulfilled that objective.

If you take your dj-ing seriously and want to get on then you've got to whip up some support for yourself. Those that can muster up a crowd for the competition will stand a better chance of winning and so it should be.

Several of the contestants have been picked up by promoters and gone on to get paid work after just one entry in the competition. So it worked on that level too.

However as far as having a panel of judges is concerned - I took the view that a panel can be knobbled, drunk, bought and not impartial when everyone knows everyone in our close knit little town. [NOT SAYING THAT WOULD HAPPEN, BUT IT WAS A POSSIBILITY THAT I DIDN'T WANT TO DEAL WITH] and who would have come to Sunday trading every week for a whole year to do the judging?

All the contestants had the rules explained to them before they entered so they shouldn't really complain afterwards. I did take Iain Burns' "essay" into account and I did make some changes, although not all of his suggestions were taken on board.

In my view all of those that ahve played have been good and those that won deserved to.

Hey - there's still plenty opportunity for others to enter and come back and win the final.

Do agree neil but everyone that went through didnt deserve to and alot of peeps know this!!!!, all good though only a bit of fun, good idea for marketing etc and good experience to dj's that hadnt played a crowd before..............overall a success!!!

Unfortunately Sunday Trading has closed for the summer. We will be back in the Autumn when we are feeling refreshed.

Obviously this effects the dj competition.

I had hoped that there would be sufficient interest in that to keep Sunday trading going over the summer which is traditionally our quiet period, however this is not the case.

Falling numbers have meant closing early and cancelling DJs who have travelled to play for us. Clearly this can not go on.

I want to extend a big thanks to those who have netered the competition especially those of you who have been patient enough to wait until now for a place.

I will ring you personally as soon as I have some more information about the relaunch, which is likely to be in the Autumn.

And big thanks to everyone who has helped out over the months.
