    What is Going On?

Newcastle is attracting some of the biggest names in dance music yet the big nights are suffering. June sees the likes of Ferry Corsten, Sasha, Sister Bliss, Farley Jackmaster Funk, Digweed etc to grace the turntables at various clubs, yet the numbers going to these nights will be down on what they would have been two years ago. Have we entered the era of small more underground nights like Hed Kandi, have the 1am licenses damaged the clubs or simply has Blu Bambu killed Newcastle's clubland?

hed kandi is not an underground night. its far from it. far too glitzy to be underground.

i think people are just bored now really. not prepared to spend all that money on goin out when they could judt soend half of it staying in and gettin the decks on

Clubbing's becoming boring, same thing time after time IMO.

Plus, very little variety in Newcastle. Really just trance, prog and funky. Hopefully, Promise Hard will change this.

The only ray of light I've seen up here lately has been Spoilt Rotten. Was mint last month! :D

do you think that all the nights like hipcheck and central will do well as they are offering something a little different or is it the case that the music they play is just what is the "cool" thing to listen to?

Hed Kandi is far from Underground, it's just relatively young in Newcastle, and still growing.

I don;t know about other people on this board, but every name mentioned in that list doesn't appeal to me one bit :spangled:

People are getting bored of the bigger nights, and want to do new things.
With the Dance Music industry being the mass of sub-genres that it is atm, people are starting to go to more different nights.

I think Promise has chosen the right time to start as a monthly event, rather than weekly :)

The numbers are down because everyone has already seen DJs like Corsten, Digweed and Sasha. People don't want their weekends to become routine like their jobs.

I also agree that people are starting to realise that they're being outpriced/ripped off (whatever you wish to call it). Our perceptions of some events focus on the fact that they only care about the money. People don't want to go out and have to keep an eye on the pennies. Entrance prices need to come down or some sort of funding needs to be obtained in order to throw events with free entrance. Those brave enough to hold such events will be the benefactors long term.

I'm not sure that many clubbers in Newcastle would agree that there is actually a 'cool' type of music to listen too! Clubbers have very individual tastes.

Things are bad because the people of Newcastle are clueless twats who do what there mates think is cool!! i.e. Shindig, Hed Kandi!!!

People have no fucking idea!! Thank fuck for people like Promise,Nice, Hip Check, Tricky Disco, Influx,PGR for bringing us QUALITY MUSIC!!

People dont get to see Ferry and Sasha very often at all up here.

I dont know anyone that thinks theyre being ripped off. If people are bothered then they cant care that much about who's on cos the entry price wouldnt bother them if they really wanted to see the DJ in question. How are clubs gonna be able to reduce their entry price if narrow minded people wont give it a chance, the less people go, the more clubs are gonna have to charge to break even. And free entrance? Get a fucking clue mate!!

If you want varied nights with big name DJs you know youre gonna have to pay a bit more. And if people are bored of samey line ups, how come the arena events always do well when the line ups are virtually identical everytime? :dunce:

The arena events are always full because the charva's love the fact there is somwhere to go with hard music and they can do thier cowies till 6 in the morning!

    What a proper waxa!

They are also full because GK marketing is spot on: hand flyers to people leaving Liquid, book DJs Joe Bloggs has herd of, tell them what music to expect, get a local radio station bigging there event up, etc....

I'm sorry! Was the Love parade in Leeds a few years ago not a success because it was free? And were the 250,000 people at Brighton beach last year all saying. "Hey, Fatboy Slim. Get a fucking clue mate! You don't attract people putting gigs on for free." I travelled the 300+miles just to be there because its one of the best ideas to ever hit British clubbing.

I noticed in your little outburst there that you didn't come up with one possible strategy that could help clubbing or one reason why people don't go clubbing as much. Thats probably because you don't know how & why. I would argue against the rest of your so called 'points' but it was really uneducated blah. :dunce:
