    Religion is about control.

I see Joe's points about it not being the religion, but the people who cause the problems (wars etc.). However I don't think it's an excuse I think they actually believe that what they are doing is just and right. If the religion wasn't there in the first place, they wouldn't have those beliefs.

Whether or not the world would be better off without religion is something we'll probably never know. I think it provides a very good basis for people to cope with difficult events in their life. It gives people hope.

Any kind of religion/politics will always breed extremists. The power of their conviction is the scariest thing.

I am bang into the same religion as Maddona, but I used to be well into what Tom Cruise was into.

Religion is more fashionable in Hollywood than what diet plan you are on.

Joe are you still sticking with being Jewish? THAT IS SO OLD, MOVE ON JOE, BEING JEWISH AINT COOL ANYMORE, SO MY PALS FROM THE WEST BANK TELL ME.

No the people who cause the wars tend to be over the lust for power... Take the catholic/protestant issue - this isn't two religous communities battling it out because of religious beliefs - this is a power struggle... How can you blame these problems on religion?

Which part of their belief states they should be at war?

Religion is like communism though - its meant to level us, and bring us together for a positive reason - but the problem is that in ALOT of cases (not all - there are exceptions im sure) that religion is used by others as a tool to get what they want, or have their own way. The roman catholic church for instance - look at all the wealth there, or the taliban using religion as an excuse to essentially cripple a country of freedom.

Im sure theres exceptions, and im sure theres accurate counter arguments - but empirically it seems that fellow man doesnt have a clue when it comes to managing a religion peacefully and fairly...... we always manage to cock it up.

Me and my mein kampf positivity again eh :) (by the way - downloaded and read that, what a load of tosh)

But if these men weren't manipulating religion they'd be manipulating someting else... Capitalism is a great example - it brings no good to the world - yet causes horrendeous problems, where as religion causes masses of good.

    Most people need faith.

Just because someones faith can be manipulated - ti does not mean that faith should be rmeoved.

If we cant crack being able to manage the faith - then its a dangerous position to have people with faith in anything.

Look at the bible... faith in a book written 100 years after jesus died, and all of it hearsay.

Then 2000 years of faith and wars caused by it... granted alot of good, and alot of positivity - but alot of bad also.

The concept is great, but the practice seems to cause more harm than good.

I dont belong to any religion (wasnt christened) and my family dont go to church.

The only times Ive been to church is for school stuff when I was little and family stuff, funerals, weddings etc.

Joe's right, people having some from of belief gives them hope etc and from my experience its people that have had some kind of problems that turn to religion after being a non believer. My aunty was never religious but as soon as her husband died she joined the catholic church and has been a believer ever since, and her belief got her through a really bad time in her life

    I don't understand your point?

Amy was saying that religion gives people hope, what has that got to do with a power struggle in Palestine?
