Check out the link, they are cracking down on it in Manchester.

Just a thought but I wonder if Newcastle City Council will see this and make an example of someone here to scare off and deter others from doing it.

newcastle council will probs go ahead with similar plans... grey haired old buffers... it's the 'love parade' mentality all over again. and they wonder why we didn't get the city of culture bid. back-scratching fat cats scared of change.

I dont have a problem with fly posters going up, its when they dont take them down, it makes the place look really tacky.

There should be a tax on flyers & chewing gum & the money on this should not go to central government but straight to local environmental agencies

I agree... perosnally I cna't see why council sponsered bilboards can't be placed on the odd lamppost... pay them a few quid a week - every1's a winner.

I agree, there isn't really much of an option other than fly post, but is it very effective?

Because fly postering is so common now with something on most of the "key" lamp posts in town do people take notice of them (I can't really comment I look at everything cause that is just the way I am) but does "joe public" take notice of these posters or is handing out flyers a more effective way of promotion?

From a mkting point of view you get mass coverage from fly postering but 95% of the people that see it are not your target mkt, where as if you are handing out flyers and your flyer staff are good, then they are essential only giving flyers to the target mkt.

I think promise is highly noticable, as they're fucking everywhere ;)

I'm sure if newcastle do make an example iot'll be of promise as they are the most effective and most visible - basically the best ;) :D

If I didn't use this board I would rely on the posters that get posted on the edge of Cramlington (Moor farm roundabout for example) to tell me and/or my mates when Promise and Quality are next on.

I say they do a good job of getting the people to come who don't come on this board.

The council do provide an advertising opportunity already on certain lamposts but only on the new 'bins' they have attached to the lamposts... i seen a few of them when travelling back through gosforth th other day...had a notice stuck to the bins saying something like :

"To advertise here, please ring Newcastle City Council on: blah blah"

    Cash cow...

They do Fizz, the only thing is, its not cheap.

    Sponsor a roundabout, they say.

Oh, let me hand you huge bags of money, on top of my council tax, stealth taxation etc, so you can finance more 'wasted' money.

posters are very effective. i notice posters more than flyers.
take a hip hop/electro night for example. I am unlikey to be given a flyer, because i probably dont fit into th stereotypical hiphop look, so im probably not in there target group for handing them out. But i do like the music, and might go to the night. so the posters serve the purpose of informing me whats on, in sandwich shops, records shop, streets etc. i Think they are more effective than flyers.

one's by the cornerhouse pub always catch my eye... or the ones on the silverlink and testos roundabout. OR the big ones on high bridge street on the metal railway barrier thing... i end up sitting at green lights reading them. see- me stopping at green lights again. danger to society i am.

as one member of the council proudly proclaimed last week, as he triumphantly ripped down one of those massive loughdough posters next to ncl uni, 'The war on promotors as started'!!!:dunce: :dunce:

Council - GET A LIFE surely there is more important jobs to do than prosecute people whose flyer badges arent on display:monkey:

yes posters are effective, especially perhaps for some of the smaller nights which can't afford to dish out thousands of flyers everyday:)
