    CD burning virgin

I've decided it's about time I knocked up a demo CD, so I'm off to a friend's house this weekend to do it. He's got a bobby-dazzler PC, and I've got the lead to connect my mixer to the PC.
But neither of us have actually done it (the CDs, cheeky) before.

    So I'm after some advice.

I know I'll need some software. Can I download some for free ? What's the best software to use ? Ideally I want to burn the CD, put the track markers in, Normalise it, then do the compression thing while I'm burning it. Will one piece of software let me do all this? If so what's it called and where can I get it ?

I really am canny useless with all this technology malarkey, I struggle with a digital watch. So any other advice you think I might need would be greatly appreciated.
