Set Times What does everyone prefer? I know when I see a flyer with 5 djs playin at promise I instantly think shit - how am i going to get into any of these sets. With the variation and different styles djs use surely fewer djs and longer sets would mean a better promise? For example Fergie is the only major headlining dj friday so im presuming he will be getting at least 2hrs and not the usual 1 and a half or in some case an hour set. A 3hr set would be great
I like one guest a night, that way you can choose your nights and see the DJ build a whole set rather than play for an hour. Unfortunately to get the crowds in all promoters can't always do this.
i prefer one guest a night too, but i think its the fact that not every dj/style will appeal to everyone, so they try mix the night up a bit to attract a wider audience
definitely longer sets, main thing i hate bowt arena events is having 27 djs on gettin 15mins each (well.....almost ) anyone can stand & mix 10 tunes together in an hour, gives you very little time to go anywhere. used to be mint 'back in the day' just having rich & a guest on, each getting 2-3hrs. i know it wasnt working financially ect, and more djs attract wider range of people, which in turn equals more people thru the door and more money. just the way it is i suppose
what about like back in the day in NYC when danny tenaglia used to play marathon sets 9-6 for the same crowd every week. That is a skill, sadly, no longer are the days.
The big clubs (not many now!) like Gods frequently manage it but suppose smaller ones are unable to do it. Unless of course you have Tiesto or Van Dyk which are global names. The non-clubbers obviously are attracted by a long list of dj names - really sad
im not sure thats right. Anything that makes dance music more popular is for the better. For example at a recent promise a mate of mine said he wasn't a fan of Judge Jules and therefore didn't want to go. However when i told him that Above & Beyond were also playing, who he does like he decided he would come along. if it had just been Jules and residents (no offence to the residents) then he wouldn't have come along, in turn i wouldn't have went on my own so by having both Jules and Above & Beyond in one night, Promise made 30 odd quid from our entry fees plus the combined £40 we spent on drinks when we were in there at the end of the day clubs need to make money to survive and to book bigger and better DJs in the future.
I'd love to see more longer sets. Howells has done a few 5 hour sets up here but in America he does 12 hour ones sometimes. Pretty impossible with Newcastle license laws
