Overpaid A WORKER at a Leicester wholesale cash and carry business, who was being paid 29p an hour, has been paid more than £5,000 plus costs, following an employment tribunal hearing. Following an action co-ordinated by the Highfields Minimum Wage Project and the National union of Knitwear, Footwear and Apparel Trades (KFAT), and pursued by Morrish and Co, Solicitors in Leeds, company director Ashwin Patel, trading as Falcon Cash & Carry, at Syston Street West, has paid the full amount owed. The worker, who has learning difficulties, had contacted the Highfields Minimum Wage Project, and was advised to make a claim with the employment tribunal. Although the tribunal found that the claim had been made one day later than required, it declared that the worker had been paid two sums of £30 in cash for the first month of employment. This amounts to just 29p an hour. INFO FROM: http://www.leicester.gov.uk/NewsSite/NewsView/page.asp?pgid=5910
