Can anyone recommend any cheap hotels (or websites to check), and also any vinyl haunts worth spending my hard earned cash in whilst in NYC….

The status of Liberty has just opened again today, the first time since the 9/11 attacks. Would be brilliant to go up there like!

Chelsea youth hostel in the chelsea district of manhatten (right next to the village) ...

I stayed there for a week when i went over and met shitloads of people from all over the world in a really short amount of time.

    $22 a night :)

Not a hotel but an alternative perhaps :)

me and my mate spent hours on our last night in the states trapsing round, 4 hours sleep in 3 days, with full size packs, covered in dog crap from being too exhausted to carry em more than 5m at a time, grating our stupidly floridian sunburnt shoulders looking for this hovel! the only reason why was because its the hotel where sid vicious got charged with doin his missus over with...

we made it to an indian resturaunt in uptown with about 2c to spare on the cab meter, got rat arsed and never found the chelsea star.. till this day i thought it was made up like narnia or somethin.. 4 months livin there and we didnt see it once.. sam get me a photo :D

lister - what brid said - do it in hostels.. much better experience..

    ayh amsterdam/103rd st..
