The U.S. quietly supported Saddam Hussein during the 1980s through direct economic aid, indirect military aid, and the transfer of technologies with military applications. The US also prevented the UN from lifting it's sanctions on Iraq that were imposed in 1991, the result being a humanitarian catastrophe, with hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians—primarily children—dying from malnutrition and preventable diseases resulting from the inability of Iraqis to get adequate food and medicine or the materials necessary to rebuild the war-damaged civilian infrastructure during that period. Food prices in Iraq in 2001 were 12,000 times as much as 1991. UNICEF estimated that 4,500 children were dying every month from the imposed sanctions. The estimate for the total amount that died of malnutrition and preventable diseases is between 250,000 and 1 million.

Even through that period of oppression forced on by the americans, which actually strengthened Saddam's hold on power, the Iraqi's still had a society that was better off than most third world countries - decent housing, an excellent education system, women had rights, etc. The US has murdered way more Iraqi's than Saddam ever did.

The bombing campaigns and the recent war were illegal, only the UN Security Council has the prerogative to authorize military responses to violations of its resolutions; no single member state can do so unilaterally without explicit authorization. Otherwise, for example, Russia could bomb Israel for that government’s ongoing violations of UN Security Council resolutions.

What we have now created is a severely destabilised country, with arab and muslim people around the world now resenting the west for the evil it has caused. The Iraqi people will see no benefits from Halliburton et al moving in, they now have daily violence, increased inflation, depleted food stocks, 'insurgents' and an occupying force that are murdering their own kind daily. In a few years, Iraq will be even worse off than it ever has been.

Fuck Bush, fuck Blair, and fuck the corporations that are making immense profits from this slaughter. None of this was done in the name of 'freedom'. We are the murdering bastards, and I am ashamed to be British.

This is a good thread..... gotta have my say .....

people like Sadass insane ....Robert muganybody ... hitler and all other dictators have always been around and always will be around ... War has always happend and always will hapen unfortunatley .. that doesnt mean to say that war is right but we as a nation and indeed as a global community are now more aware (excluding the american public) of the horror and atrocities of war due to the unprecedented media coverage ..... Was it right to invade iraq ??? There have been lives lost . Not one war in history has ever been right ... you can not justify the loss of a single human life through an act of agression and certainly not by passing it off as premeditative ... Bush and Blair dint invade iraq to stop nuclear weapons from falling on our shores nor did they go to topple a horrible dictator though that is what they have done they went because it suited there interests and greed . But that has been the reason for every war ever faught ... Hitler wanted worl domination ... So did we once anyone remember genghis khan .... the roman empire etc etc etc ... the only difference between then and now is the public are starting to realise what happens in these so called crusades , jihad , whatever you want to call it , whatever spin you put on it , wheather you believe it should or shouldnt happen the simple fact is it will and our world would not move forward without it ... sound s stupid yes ,,,,but think about it .... would america ever have become the so called suoperpower wiythout war would we have the multicultural society we have now without first fighting over our differences ... So however wrong it is maybe we need war ???????? and maybe youl see a lot more made up excuses and justification of a horrible but simple Fact .... WAR.!:spangled:
