the guy on the bridge on saterday

i went shopping in newcastle on saterday and we had to take diversions everywhere cos the tyne bridge was shut.

as we drove over the other bridge, there was only a fire engine on the tyne bridge but then we saw a guy right on the top!

ive missed the news the past 4 days due to being either in a car or at work, can anyone tell me nething abuot this? was it a suicide attempt? is the guy alright? was it some sort of problem with the bridge?

    im curious! ne info?

When we came over from Sunderland to go to Bar 55 for Jazzy M at 9pm the bridge was shut off and when we went over the swing bridge you could see a bloke on the bridge ready to jump off, dunno if he did though

    quite a regular occurence unfortunately.

i've seen someone launch off there before... not nice, landed down next to the boat. morbid curiousity gets the better of you and you look... i wouldnt advise others to do the same..

    :(

I heard bout this the other day.. I didn't hear what happened though..

Its a pity that this is a regular occurance.. majority of the ppl who get up there probably don't have any intention of jumpin, they probably just want the attention..

But to be honest.. there isn't exactly very many measures in place to stop this from happenin.. :(

lol... the swing bridge even has hand rails.. doesn't that kinda invite ppl to climb it?? :p

I know how ya feel spud.. curiosity would probably get the better of me too.. musta been horrible! :(

I doubt it would do much damage to jump off the Swing Bridge...surely it's too low?

Yeah I suppose.. but if your heavily intoxicated and theres a nasty current it could be nasty..

It normally wouldn't do much damage..

True, although most people going over the swing bridge heavily intoxicated have just been to Baja. Therefore I would recommend them jumping off :)

Suppose.. it just the way I view the situation..

If ya really wanted to "do" yerself in then surely u'd do somethin with a decent chance of death..

    Anyways.. suicide is stupid anyways..

I doubt anyone who does it/thinks about doing it is in such a stable state of mind to think like that.

Haha. Nah, its OK. Its just me being awkward. Its just something thats a bit too close to home and it gets to me when people start to generalise.

    Sorry. :)
