Its a worrying world we live in when the decisions and agendas of a few, rich, people can decide how large populations think and act.

Ive known a few 'daily mail' families in my time, and it was shocking the level of right wing ranting and raving these people would come out with... believing that they actually carried those opinions themselves.

Ironically, most people are pretty liberal when given the right education and have facts and realities presented to them in a much less biased manner. Unfortunately we fight our wars on foreign soils, and do our best to keep the dirty aspects of living in the west at arms length, where its easy to be an armchair hate monger.

When someone leaves the mail on the train, ill have a read and its good to pass the time with - but i worry about the people who stick to one paper and suddenly end up reflecting the papers views, rather than making up their own from seeking a varied number of perspectives from different sources.

I bought The Independent today as I fancied reading a newspaper on my way home from college. I originally opted for The Times, but there was only one copy left and it was torn to shreds. I'm also a fan of The Guardian, but I'm with Ferox on not wanting to be the twat trying to read one on a bus. I have to say though, that on reading The Independent today, I've concluded that a lot of it is written by arrogant morons who feel their 'culture' is one that should be accepted by all. I had a jolly good laugh at the 'our society and culture is dwindling because the youth of today aren't intelligent enough to understand classical music, and instead are subjected to rap, house and garage music, like Eminem and 50 Cent' thing on page 3 today though. What amused me more is that these were quotes from the director of the National Philharmonic. It did motivate me to write to their arts correspondent, and Mr. Whelton himself, to educate them a little in their musical knowledge, but figured that them having their heads so far up their own arses may prevent them from reading it properly.

I'm generally not a newspaper reader anyway. The only time I've 'religiously' (I use that term loosely as I fear that after Brid's post, he might seriously believe that I've taken to worshipping a newspaper), is when I was working full-time. I went through a range of papers then though. The Express, The Mail, The Sun. I have to say though, I'm not particularly bothered whether they're left-wing, right-wing, or tend to swing both ways, they're bits of paper that I read, on average, 50-70% of, then throw in the bin :)

I wasnt judging Allie - I was just pointing out that 'some' people who habitually read the same newspaper, end up reflecting their views in a worryingly coincidental manner. Not all people though.

    Ye Cannae deny that, surely?

It's got to be the daily star tbh! I only ready get it for the sports crossword, I haven't got time to read a real paper at work, just a quick glance at the sport, etc. The Independant is quality for the sport though! Just a shame it takes a day to read it all
