Interesting fact : Jaffa cakes have to be classed as cakes for tax reasons. Biscuits are taxed at a greater rate or summit.
I class them as a biscuit always eat the choc, then base then orangy bit. like being a kid again nyamnyamnyam!
jaffa cakes are stocked in the buscuit aisle jaffa cake bars are stocked in the cakes aisle or at least that's how it was at safeway where i worked
Yeah, i'm bored.... cake • noun 1 an item of soft sweet food made from baking a mixture of flour, fat, eggs, and sugar. 2 a flat, round item of savoury food that is baked or fried. 3 the amount of money available for sharing: a fair slice of the education cake. biscuit • noun 1 Brit. a small, flat, crisp unleavened cake. 2 N. Amer. a small, soft round cake like a scone. 3 porcelain or other pottery which has been fired but not glazed. Not really conclusive in my opinion as the Jaffa is kind of in between the two. If a gun was held against my head though, i'd have to go for cake.
I have sent an email to Mcvities.... Hello, You are no doubt sick of this question. The Jaffa cake. Is it classed as a cake or a biscuit? The Oxford English Dictionary classes cakes and biscuits as the following: cake • noun 1 an item of soft sweet food made from baking a mixture of flour, fat, eggs, and sugar. 2 a flat, round item of savoury food that is baked or fried. 3 the amount of money available for sharing: a fair slice of the education cake. biscuit • noun 1 Brit. a small, flat, crisp unleavened cake. 2 N. Amer. a small, soft round cake like a scone. 3 porcelain or other pottery which has been fired but not glazed. hear that it is classed as a cake for 'tax reasons' I find the definitions unclear, as the humble Jaffa cake is both spongey in texture, yet not to the point of a lets say, Victoria Sponge. It is also too soft to take on a biscuit form. One rumour I heard is that, and i quote "Biscuits are taxed at a greater rate or summit." I hope McVities are able to shed some light on this, as this seems to be a long running argument with people whom have better to do with there time. Regards J Storey I shall report back with my findings.
It's definately a cake hun, they are horrible things tho, rather have a chocolate bourbon or digestive
