it is a scandalous policy though, i wouldn't mind if public services were going to be in line with most of scandanavia but the reality is that a tax rise on that bracket of earners would raise very little in the grand scheme of things.

the liberal democrats are bad for business, be you an entrepreneur or a multinational.

middle england is revolting against labour especially in the south. i believe this election is going to be a lot closer than labour would care to imagine.

howard is systematically going after the middle england vote and considering the current state of apathy they are the perfect demographic. The Daily Mail readers are going to play a big part in this election as those who have lost faith in labour stay home.

once again it's the single people in employment who lose out, the lib dems are proposing free care for all pensioners who need it and scrapping tution fees for students, which is great but...

they hope to raise 5.1 billion with the new tax bracket but I'm not sure what percentage of people earn 100k plus. No-one I know, or I would have married them..

We seem to lose out all ways, there aren't any specific policies to make our lives easier, and our taxes pay to support ourselves and others.

I suppose you could argue in a civillised country we should support the less fortunate but for a section of the population being supported by the system seems to be a lifestyle choice, and who can blame them sometimes when you think of how we shell out just to live..

it is also a bizzare policy in that it would not be a progressive tax, meaning that unless they lowered the 100k cap (which i think they would gradually do anyway) it would actually be more benefical to earn less.

earn 99k pay 39.6k at 40% tax leaving you with 59.4k

earn 101k pay 50.5k at 50% tax leaving you with 50.5k

someone did not do their homework at lib dem HQ before coming up with this policy.

You're so ignorant it beggers belief - violent crime echoes through every area of society from drunken rugger louts kicking a man to death in dublin to charvers beating up their mates granny.

You can't blame a rise in violent crime on charvers - thats just fucking stupid.

I have had 8 days off work due to sickness since I started working in 1992 & I have never been on dole!!!!

I feel I am owed some money off the Government or at least a medal or being made a CBE or OBE & if I honest I would even accept an MBE.

don't they just pay 50% on everything over £100k??

The countries with probably the best std of living and best social conditions in the world are the Scandinavian countries where they also pay the higeest overall taxes.

Low taxes are good for high earners but not good for the country long term

After reading the three pages of this thread so far, I find this statement to be somewhat ironic.

Stop stereotyping! You're sounding more and more like the Daily Mail by the second.

They may well do, but the simple fact is the blonde ice hockey loving porn stars cant get pissed due to average pint costing about the same as a 2 door Nissan Micra does in this country.

I think it is everything over 100k yes so if u were on 120k you'd pay 50 percent tax on 20k

jesus even 20k wages would be nice

I agree that the scandanavian countries have a higher standard of living however if we want public services the same standard as these countries why don't we raise income tax by 10% for all and create a new tax bracket at 60% for those earning over a 100k?

great news for public services, bad for the individual.

Im not suggesting I do know different. Just think you're wrong to heap blame onto one group of society.

Nice to have an interesting thread again, btw. This board needs more serious debates.

I think they pay something like 4 or 5% more than we do, not 10%, but the way it works is 20 years of decent education & health care etc results in a more prosperous country all round, i.e. cities are clean, decent public transport, most people have decent jobs and well educated, decent health care & pensions etc

plus no charvers, I'd vote for it
