As long as your sensible, I don't see the problem with credit cards. I've never ever had any trouble with mine.

You're 18, and therefore elligable for a full visa account.. just go into your bank and ask..

electron and solo have lower daily limits on them and also a limit to how much you can spend electronically in one day, also they aren't cheque guarantee cards...

I got my switch card confiscated for 12 months in 2nd year of uni for being £400 over my overdraft limit and given a solo card.. the shame

so i went and took 2 more credit cards out :dunce:

What exactly is a full visa account though? The difference being you can have an overdraft?

I've got two credit cards and have never had a problem with them. I know how much I can afford to spend so it doesn't cause a problem.. if you're in any doubt though, I wouldn't bother. The only thing I've put on mine recently is my season ticket.

I have to say like, I think the fact that I work in debt collection works to my advantage in this respect.. Every day I see the level of debt people have and it's really frightening - I like a good spend :D but it's made me much more conscious and I always ask myself whether something really needs to go on a credit card.

I got offered a credit card when I set up my debit account and didnt even want it! Basically got it forced on me hehehe. It is useful for when i have a cash flow problem (which happens quite regularly these days) but I always pay it off in full. Have seen mates get into debt and would not want to go down that route
