Re: Tips you don't have to declare cash tip, this is bullshit, credit card and other account based gratuities are though because they go through the companys books... i always explain before they stick a tip on their card that we don't see a penny...
if you earn less than £4,700 a year you don't pay tax, the only way you should do is if you earn over this threshold in a single period on the basis you could continue to earn this for the year.. you can then claim it back come april..
Re: Tips used to work for inland revenue and unfortunately, you have to pay tax on your earnings!! tips = earnings... sucks i know. used to be a waiter too though and i used to just pocket them. only coz i used to work my arse off and some of my collegues were slack as fuck... so were they bollox gonna get an equal share!
the skinny of it is tips are taxable and even tho jess is 12 or a student or whatever the tips are counted together then taxed then shared out.
i've worked in the trade for 8 years from school, 6th form and all through uni and never once has anyone made us declare our cash in hand tips, its widely acknowledged that this is the norm... credit card, hotel room charge tips are a different matter because it goes through the books.... there is no way the IR would and could enforce it.
trust me the penny pinchin fuckers at the IR are, they're telling employers they will be fined if they are caught!!
how though? smashing through the windows a-team style post shift to raid the joint for £50? the thing that vexes me the most is when the till is down and we have to put our hard earned wong into company coffers cos some coked up prick can't read the shift report... and yes i pocket every penny i can
under cover tax inspecters find out trust me, ve seen a few reports on it. im gonna tain to be a tax inspector i feel shifty as fuck when ive gone straight to the harbour fro work and ive still got my IR pass on. half the cunts in seaham dont pay their fecking taxes to start with
I can't pocket it because my mum runs there and a lot of my cousins and friends work there, therefore I would feel disgusting pocketing the tips...I would rather share out and get less...although if I worked with slackers I would probably feel different
