    ......

whoever that caps lock individual was yesterday i couldnt care aless, however he did raise quite a valid point about dance music being dead.
what does everyone on here think?
personally give me a night around the bars in town any day of the week rather than a night in a sweaty stinking drug infested club!
actually i will rephrase that...trance music is dead perhaps?

play any compilation and dj set from about 1999-2003 and they were just so damn good, the tunes were unbelievable, abolutley amazing!! clubs used to be rammed full of happy, totally class people and the atmosphere was just unreal.
now you go to your average trance night...
yeah the musics okay, the club may be busy but the people populating it are mostly horrible underage gimps or charvers who wouldnt know the ins and outs of trance music if it jumped up and smacked them in the face and the atmosphere is generally shit.
perhaps its because i was lucky enough to be going clubbing from 99 onwards and was able to experience trance music and clubs at their ultimate best..
    who knows....
but what i do know is that while dance music and the club used to rule my life for the best part of 8 years i can quite happily take it or leave it.
is this a sign of me growing up or has clubland just basically turned shite?

in comparison to how it was tho i reckon its dying a slow and painful death lol!!
just my opinion anyways cos on the times i do go out although these occasions may be very rare these days lol, i do see lots of gurning fresh(!) faced little kids who seem to love it all so much so i s'pose they will keep it alive i just think its when u can lok back and remember how good things used to be and compare them to the way things are now that it makes u think.
these kids tho have nothing to compare it all too so i suppose its bound to be great for them!!

I agree with you Rachel. Some of the best nights were clubbing between 1999 and 2001. The tunes were abso amazing.
The songs that some clubs now defined as dance music are shitty remakes.

honesly i could sit and cry when listening to some old dj sets from back then and remembering how clubland was!! it was just soooo amazing!! i suppose its quite good in a way that clubland is so shit (IMO) cos it least i'm managed to regain my sanity in time for my final year at uni :p !!!
theres very rarely you heard a tune that is even half as good as the trance tunes that were flooding out between 99-2001!! aahh dear!! at least we have our memories :p!! xxx

Rachel it's more of case of when you were young and right into the scene. You find as you get older priorities change.

A lot of people like to claim things went tits up in 99. It's just a matter of the era when you were into it.

For me it's the commercialization of dance that has killed it.

All Around the World have made absolutely shitloads flogging their Clubland albums, which (if you have a listen) are filled with one samey flip'n'fill mix after another. It's all cheesy breakdowns with female vocals that only charvers could love.

Those of us who liked the original trance hate the clubland stuff with a passion (I certainly do). For me this horrible mass-produced chart/floor filling rubbish and it's lack of creativity is what has killed decent mainstream trance off.

It's driven the trance sound harder and techier because DJ's don't want to be seen to be playing stuff thats in any way similar to this cheesy shit.

As an example (from CD 1 of Clubland), the tracks that are covers are highlighted in bold with the original artist:

    1. Nasty Girl-Inaya Day [Riffs & Rays Remix] Features the riff from a Michael Jackson Track
    2. Fading Like A Flower-Dancing DJ's Vs Roxette [Hardino Extended Mix]
    3. Run To You-Pascal Vs Bryan Adams
    4. High Again (High On Emotion)-Thomas Falke [LMC Remix]
    5. It's Over Now-Big Ang Feat. Siobhan [Hardino Remix]
    6. Crash Landing-Route-1 Feat. Jenny Frost [DJ Demand Remix]
    7. Feel It With Me-Ultrabeat [Styles & Breeze Remix]
    8. Superman-Holy Ghost [Dancing DJ's Remix]
    9. I Touch Myself-M*A*S*H Feat. Stacie D [Love To Infinity Remix](Originally by the Divinyls)
    10. Coming Back-M&C Feat. Rebecca Rudd
    11. You Are The One-Francesca [Flip & Fill Remix]
    12. Not Over Yet-Lee S Feat. Danielle Planet Perfecto
    13. Poison-Groove Coverage Alice Cooper
    14. Blow Me Away-Lisa Abbott [Lee S Remix]
    15. Cry-System F [FNP Remix]
    16. Freed From Desire-Killa Deejays Feat. Carrie Ryan Originally by Gala
    17. Let Me Show You 2005-Camisra
    18. Getting Better-Darren Styles
    19. Sexy Eyes-Eyeopener Originally by Whigfield
    20. U R The Best Thing-Flip & Fill

And those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head... Thats only 9 tracks out of 20 with any original content (if they are originals and not covers).

And all of this crap (imo) has stifled genuine innovation by new producers. People don't care about hearing decent tracks anymore when they can listen to a clubland album and hear dance covers. Those of us with taste still like trance, but on a personal level I'm disappointed with the fact it hasn't moved on or evolved.

With the exception of a few people in the industry there's no creativity in the music anymore and DJs are too busy pigeon-holing their music into niche trance genres to appear credible.

Its definitely NOT dying!!!! Every weekend its going off in the clubs! Everything always seems all the more magical when you first get into it, but clubs are still rocking just as much as they always have! It may be filtering its way through different genres but its def still going on!

Thats not related to trance, just dance music in general.

Should have really said that instead of writing trance at the top :dunce:

Got to agree 100% with you there. I can quite easily get upset over how much I miss the good times of going out back in the day. No matter where you go now, it's just not the same. The music, people(apart from a few class mates), attitude is just always shite. I just realise why I hate going to Shields or bars round Town etc the other day. It's not that it's totally shit or anything, it's not great, but it's because the times I used to have when going out clubbing all over the country were so Dam good that when I go out now, it's completetly and utterly shit in comparison. I listen to tunes which remind me of the god times, and half of me wants to listen to them, and half of me wants to turn them off because there upsetting me!:( :(

Or listen to Oakie from Lotheren Hall and compare that to any trance that's knocking about now, there's just no competition

Commercial clubbing is where alot of people 'joined in' and maybe they are the same people who are complaining now that its dead.

I like how clubbing has 'died' in the UK to be honest - personally if we can see the back of clubs like godskitchen and crasher it will be great - and people can get back to making an effort to visit clubs and listen to music instead of relying on the latest and greatest clubbing 'brand' to turn up at their nearest arena and put on a typical lineup of the most popular trance dj's, while putting local nights out of business before buggering off to the next town.

I think things are dying off a bit as far as commercial presence is concerned, but i know that i love dance music and clubbing as much as i ever did - if not more.

..... I hate to sound like an irritating 'voice from the south' but seriously .... go to fabric or turnmills and its a completely different vibe - I absolutely love clubbing up in newcastle but its more about the people and friends than the clubs and the music for me there, It doesnt have the same feel as it does in london.

Its strange since you would have thought clubbing in capital cities would be the most alienating and unfriendly thing ever - complete opposite.

For sure - I think it should have stayed as a club night at a place in sheffield.... the whole brand/cd's/arena thing was what ruined it all i reckon
