I've heard good things bout this place too!

    I fancy a visit........

With regards to the overall subject the only thing I've noticed dramatically change is the crowds (for the worse). Thats mainly down to commercialisation of it all; more people knowing about the djs and music. Djs getting dance awards and appearing on mtv etc.

Admittedly I listen to the 'old' trance which was what got me into the scene and think wow. Very unique, memorable tracks.
Nowadays thats changed somewhat simply because there are so many more producers out there. its been opened up to more people with new technology. Therefore you're bound to get repetition and similar sounds.

Just means you gotta be a bit more selective, each year there are 10/15 outstanding tracne tracks which are all unique and sound awesome which could potentially be 'classics' another 5 years down the line...
(see Aarons post above Trance Classics 2010!! )

If ya dloading tunes every night, listening to online radio shows each week and going out clubbing every weekend ya gunna see/experience the same things!

Ofcourse its not dead, im not the biggest fan but the music now is just as good if not better than it was back then, sa its better produced now.
I went well off trance and had the whole i think its dead opinion not long ago, but that was because i got too into things and recodnised every track that was being played in a club, now that i dont keep up with trance i find it interesting again like i used to.

People compare things now to when they first went out, but what it boils down to is when they first went out it was something differant, something they hadn't experienced before, and drugs acually worked for those who took them, but once you've been everywhere and seen everything the appeal goes and you end up getting into something differant.

Trance is far from dead because just as youse go off the music there's always going to be someone else just getting into the scene who never knew of 99 etc and this will be their era to look back on :)

I've never said trance was ever shit. Imo it's always been up there. Just said that it began it's demise in the public eye around 2003 because of the bastard charts (Not a bad thing, just gave trance a bad name that's all). All the tunes you mention above were being played to the right people at the time. Not an audiance of twelve year old school girls jumping around a studio at 2pm in the afternoon :D

That's my point, Jules was total pap in 99 imo, that Yomanda sound/style was so irritating for me.

Some of these points may have been raised already, but my thoughts are.....

Trance is not dead. It's sound has simply evolved from the huge synth, euphoric sound of 1998 - 2001 to the more subtle tunes produced by the likes of above & beyond (and anjuna beats in general) and Jon O'bir. The earlier style was always likely to appeal to a wider audience. Every music style goes through stages of commercial success - trance isn't there at the moment. However you'll get a lot of chavs, hangers on etc at events like Godskitchen at the Arena and Creamfields because they think a trance night consists of the same AATW shit they blast out of the Nova's at 2am. Decent trance nights are still having huge success throughout the country and will continue to do so. The focus will hopefully continue away from a lot of the DJ's who have dominated the scene allowing a new generation to make the grade. Furthermore, hard trance whilst never getting the same commercial recognition that trance has/had appears to be thriving - as a couple of examples, Tidy feeling they can put on a weekly wednesday night event in Leeds and a 2 day event over NYE when most other promoters are backing away from NYE.

For me everyone today is taking it especially trance far too seriously. If it isnt techy people dont want to know.

look at tunes like angel and libeta in my opinion they were and still are quality tunes. I they were released today they would be slatedcalled trance shite etc etc.

clubbing is about having fun. people are too critical of the scene today and of djs too which in turn leads to a crapper night and overall feeling of let down imo.

the Internet is a factor in this supposed 'downfall' ,

alot of the crowd will have heard half the tracks before and as people can now send their mixes all over the world , you often find that the people in their bedrooms are just as good as the big people but just havent been given the chances
