no its not, no matter how long u listen to white or pink noise it wont damage ur hearing because it is constant, its only when u lsiten to sound where the frequencies vary (i.e. music) that it damages ur hearing

but I was referring to music, in response to your post - just because a sound system is higher quality doesn't mean it will do less damage to your ears

no but my argument is its not the loudenss of the system it is the way it is set up

academys system was set up poorly, was loud but had no clarity and the harmful frequencies werent blocked out

kin el - if you're going to act the big man you really ought to make sure you've got even a vague idea what you're talking about first.

The chances of a rig that size not having a crossover are virtually none existent, FYI a crossover is a device that splits the signal into different frequencies to send to the speakers (via the amps) that suit those frequencies - ie. sub bass, bass, mids, tops. Without a cross over all these differerent speakers would be trying to play the full range of the music, and if you've ever tried getting good sub bass out of a tweeter you'd understand why this ain't such a good idea.

The main difference between active and passive crossovers is that active speakers are placed before the amps in the circuit (and are a powered unit in the amp rack), whereas passive crossovers are between the amp and the speaker in the circuit, and usually are actually mounted in one of the speakers so you just plug your speaker cable into the bass speaker then from that speaker into the mid tops etc. The carling will almost certainly have an active crossover, the cause of the muddy sound being a combination of wrong crossover points, poor eqing, and too much compression.

but of course you knew all this didn't you

Since when are harmful frequencies blocked out anyway though? I may be missing your point here like.

Go to digital, stand in the middle for 6 hours...you ears will ring like a bitch, and that is one of the best systems in europe :p

I use THESE which certainly do the trick

but u have not read my posts then, i said if u listen to high pressure levels for an extended period of time u will suffer temporary tinitus, but it is the harmful frequencies that have a long lasting effect

I always thought that higher frequencies do more damage to your ears than the lower ones????

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Academy sound system

    You said:

Which made me assume that you were saying that a better quality system will do less damage to your hearing which isnt true....harmful frequencies in loud music will damage your hearing after a prolonged period of time...regardless of wether its digital style or shitter...

As pointed out elsewhere, it is the higher frequencies that do the most long term damage.

My ears ring all the time..it's not that bad luckily, used to it though.

Definatley worth using earplugs. To be fair, some places are just redicuously loud, it's unncecessary.

Liquid for example, when that system is cained it is extremely loud!!
