My job's 20 minutes on the train from Clapham Junction, or 25 mins from Putney. It's in Weybridge in Surrey, though it's only for a year. After that I will be looking to work more central. What's it like where you are?
Used to go through weybridge all the time on my way to/from Guildford eyeball - nice place Richmond is where its at Quick
Its really good and there is plenty to do. It's really central aswell, takes 15 minutes on the tube to get to Bank (the hub of the City) or 25 minutes on a bus to get to Shoreditch High Street. In the other direction its about 10 minutes tube to Brixton (loads of good places to go out there) and Clapham is about the same. I work in Clapham Common. It is quite intimidating in places like Brixton / Elephant & Castle/Camberwell when you first move here (especially if you're coming from a "white" place like Newcastle) but after a few days you get right into it. It is considered quite dodgy but aslong as you walk tall and dont get yourself so mortal that you cant stand up then you'll be fine. Putney/Clapham are quite expensive (for South London) What is your budget for rent?
I've been looking on Gumtree for flatshares, and it seems the going rate around Clapham/Putney is around £500-£600 a month. Ideally, I want to be paying no more than around £500 to £550 a month, I should find somewhere. I just need to be near to an overland train for getting to work, which is why my options (for the first year) are a bit limited.
Just had a quick look on TFL and you can go to Weybridge from Waterloo (you could probably even go from Vauxhall (plus the legendary FIRE nightclub is in Vauxhall ) that means you can realistically also look at living in Kennington/Oval/Elephant&Castle/Camberwell aswell as Clapham. tbh i wouldnt bother with Putney.....by the sounds of it all your mates (Scruff etc) live in the East End so its a MISSION to get over there from Putney whereas from here its quite a simple journey. I can imagine that living in London and not knowing anyone would be RUBBISH and its not that easy to make friends without knowing people first so you want to make sure that you are as close to your mates as possible. Im quite lucky because a load of my geordie mates moved down here a year before me so i have a good group of mates already. Whatever you do, dont move to Balham....its full of funky house lovers. Kennington/Oval is a good place to live Like Brid says, living in Surrey is nice but its not the place to live for the whole 'London Experience' imo If you need any help give me a shout
I've got a few mates down there, but they're all dotted about the place. Cheers for the advice mate, I will PM you nearer me going down and get your number.
and I bet John Merrick was sound as fuck but he was so ugly he got called the 'elephant man'. I wouldn't randomly start calling a lass ugly for no reason! She obviously thinks she's a bit of all right to get pictures like that done. and as for that news reader being caked in make up lol, look at hannahwild's boat race!
