Windows Vista worth it? ive got a laptop with AMD Turon 64 1.6 1gb Ram 60GB Hardriver I only use it for Ableton/Cubase/Reason Football Manager CSS/HTML etc I dont have an internet connection and there are no 64 bit versions of the programmes I use
you'd probably get it installed but u need a decent graphics card to get full advantage - plus i'm not sure if any of the packages with be 100% compatible - plus sound card drivers may have issues if you use your laptop seriously - i wouldn't bother. if you're a trendy - try install it yourself, fuck it, get you IT mate to fix it and revert back to XP
u also need 15gb minimum to install it and Microsoft recommends 40gb!! Download and run the Upgrade Advisor, it checks disk space, recommends which version of vista to use and also highlights compatability issues with any software/devices u may have installed. (Tis pretty good like, I had to upgrade wireless adpater drivers that was all ) http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/upgradeadvisor.mspx
mine says i can run it on that advisor thing, i thought vista was like uber cpu rapage, i only have a 2.4ghz, and 1 gig of ram. But half the software i use it says it won't run because of problems so think i'll give it a miss

am I right in thinking after reading dodgys post, that Vista is in effect a means of preventing any illegal activity involving the use of emerging content or any content such as HD etc on PCs? It sounds like horribly what I imagine Norton would produce if they did OS's....
i know what they're trying to do - but it goes against what an OS is for - it's meant to allow u to use your computer how you want. However, with everyone and their granny having computers nowadays they're having to compromise for non-IT literate people to be able to use them. basically, Vista is for non-ITers - if u want to get the BEST from a computer and know what you're doing - there's better out there.
it was the case once decss was released for DVD - part of my final year uni project used the decss code to play and rip DVDs onto the hard disk. Not sure to what extent blu-ray/hd-dvd is vulnerable, but I think it's already been broken: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6301301.stm [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DeCSS"]DeCSS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/FileeCSS.PNG" class="image"><img alt="" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a9/DeCSS.PNG/300px-DeCSS.PNG"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/a/a9/DeCSS.PNG/300px-DeCSS.PNG[/ame]
Dual booting is the way forward I'm going ott at the mo by quadruple booting XP, Fedora, Ubuntu and Frugalware. It can only be broken on a per-disc basis atm, but as long as one disc can be ripped for each title I'll be happy watching the x264 encode
I fancy dabbling with a linux setup, this Ubuntu has been bounced about recently is it a good setup then, worth it?!
