125,000 Are Choosing Unemployment in the North East

    Pretty shocking figures these like.

    http://icnewcastle.icnetwork.co.uk/eveningchronicle/eveningchronicle/tm_objectid=16381582%26method=full%26siteid=50081%26headline=125%2d000%2din%2dnorth%2deast%2dare%2dchoosing%2dunemployment-name_page.html

Its a shame that a great area that the North East has to have so many people determined to do as little as possible, and refuse to contribute to society.

Granted, there are people who are perfectly entitled to help from the state - but it makes you wonder what kind of place our city and region would be like if all the layabouts decided to get up, skip trisha and the giro trip to the post office - and put in a days work.

    Shameful.

Inbetween watching Trisha I imagine they'll be spending their time producing more of the same !!

Having said that, if I'm being honest, I come to 'work' for a rest :D

I work in a jobsearch advice centre and a can believe that. Most people come in off their own back and want to find work but a lot who are sent to us from the Jobcentre just can't be arsed or are in a benefit trap, they are actually better off on the dole than working.

It pisses me right off how some people on the dole expect everything done for them, if they have to put a bit of effort into it then they just don't bother.

'cant find work' - I think thats something thats said far too often these days.

Alot of people (including myself for a while - although ive never claimed benefits) say they 'cant find work', but what they mean to say is 'i will only do a certain type of job, and until i get that job... i aint doing nowt'.

Thats your choice - but the question is, should the state support you for being choosy about what you will or wont do - subsidised laziness, or true welfare?

I suppose but I would look at in it a way, if i was working full time I wouldn't be able to spend much time looking for a job so would be difficult, and when I did I would pay a lot more taxes because of higher income and therefore pay for my time on benefits.

I do agree though some people use it as an excuse not to get work and others aren't gonna earn that much more by waiting so may aswell just start work straight away.

unemployment is still at its lowest for decades and im sure its something stupid like less that 5% of the population thats fuck all.... we live in a age when any THICK CUNT can choose work (in a call centre) if they choose to and the great fact is many do......... theres loads of scumbags grafting their arses off these days, just check the sales figures of Golf GTI's & Henry Loyyd.

I am happy with minus 5% not working

i've always had a job... some pretty shit ones too - but it was better to work in my opinion... maybe it's how i as brought up... a jobs a job - maybe not what i trained for - but it'll do as a stop gap. There's no excuse - if u can work - get a job.

I shudder to think what 125 thousand people cost in benefits.

    100 million at least.

Its so easy to sit on your arse and not work though.
The benefit system does not work, job centres dont make an effort to get people jobs. You go in to sign on and your out the door within a few minutes. If they do ask you if your interested in a certain job you make up an excuse and its forgotten about..

I managed to go 3 years without working, collecting benefits which basically put a roof over my head while i used all my spare time wheeling and dealing, sitting about doing fuck all, playing games or boozing in the pub!

I even went to sign on for a mate 2 weeks ago coz he was working fiddle money and signed the crappest signature ever which still worked.

    Job Centres

You only realise how bad the JC is when you have to work alongside them, they're an absolute joke which is why they've had their money slashed to almost nothing.

All they can do now is refer people on to places like ours, half the time for no reason at all other than to shift them from in front of the advisors desk.

Brid, I think that's a very conservative estimate. When you total up all the jobseekers allowance, housing benefits, funding for courses, interview grants and all that stuff you're looking at a crazy amount of money.
