    Albeton

Sat was the first time I have seen Albeton live and to be honest I found watching the DJ boring as fuck at times.

Along with the music the crowd in clubs has always needed the visual aspect of the DJ to focus on. It seems to have completely dissapeared with Albeton.

The mixing seemed totally programmed and except for a bit of too-ing and fro-ing ( ) on the eq's and bass there didn't seem to be much for the DJ to do.

I'm not a DJ so no tellin me I'm stuck in the dark ages but does anyone else find albeton a bit dull to watch.

I like to hear and see the DJ having to work at his set & mix, not look as if he's surfing a message board.

Ps. I'll be retiring from this malarky soon so feel free to tell me to fuck off.

i would find it boring as hell too. i think it takes away part of what clubbing is about, for me anyway. it's always good to see how a DJ performs. i'm not sure how ableton live works, does it beat match tunes for you? i'm guessing it does since it's computer based - if that's the case, it gets a big NO from me

If the DJ is using Ableton (or Final Scratch) along with CDs and vinyl then I think it's cool but I agree that just using Ableton can look a bit boring.

As long as the tunes/mixes are to my liking i couldnt give a toss tbf.

I dont dance to the Dj standing there queing up cd's or vinyl i dance to the music.

Ableton produces some awesome results aswell, Armins Megamixes were class

I'm not sure but there wasn't a beat out all night.

Maybe jus ta gifted DJ but it sounded very programmed.

His tunes were excellent though, I won't take that away from him.

Ableton allows you to perfectly beat match any record together whatever the tempo using it's time stretch facility.

Each track has to be pre-programmed into Ableton first but once it's in there you can drop tracks in and out whenever you like. Depending on how creative you want to be you can just use it for perfect mixing or for dropping little bits of tracks in and out

Si, if the visual side of DJ-ing didn't have any impact clubs would not pay particular attention and investment, like they do, to the position and visuals of the box.

It's an ignorant statement to say "who care's watching what the DJ is doing"

Why do 99% of clubs crowds face the DJ? A lot of the interaction comes from the DJ mixing and changing records/Cd's etc...

The pictures of Si behind the decks at Habit would probably make me face the other way and dance.

I can understand his bitterness.

Mate I am replying with my opinion , not the law

Lights are definitely a massive influence on crowd reactions but let me ask you....

In Fabric , which is argueably the best nightclub in the world , you cannot see the DJ

Maybe if people stopped focusing so much on the dj's antics behind the decks we can finally move away from the 'superstar dj' phenomeon and focus on the quality of the music , which at the end of the day , is the main reason people go out to these kind of clubs

Beatmatching tracks is a trick that ANYONE can learn

The people using Ableton still have to play good tracks

it takes time to get mixing spot on tho, ableton does it all for you, yes they can find good songs but so does a dj, but a dj acually does something live, i've seen loads of live laptop sets where the guy just stands their doing fuck all, he may aswell be sitting at home with a cuppa.

    Definitely

but you still need to have the best records to make a dancefloor jump

Back to the original point , i dont care what the dj uses or what they do behind the decks , its the stuff their pumping out thats my main interest in their performance
