anyone else bored shitless of indie/rock

Haven't been to an indie night and enjoyed it in a long long long long long time - I've tried everything from kraut rock to emo and it all bores the arse off me now.

bp, brighton beach, and stonelove being the epitome of shitness....

Stonelove was brilliant the first time I went, but the second time was really boring and with no variation, it was the same songs they were playing the month before.

Most of my mates went to it regularly but they've stopped going over the last few months for several reasons... the main ones being they've heard all the music that gets played and they prefer it at foundation instead of digital.

as for emo, it just pisses me off... Maybe I'm showing my age but I can't get into any of the music, or the "scene". It does nothing for me.

I'm a massive fan of indie/rock but it's only worth going out for it if you're going to see the band. Went to Bulletproof at the Carling last week. What a pile of pap! People just walk around doing fuck all! Really pissed me off that every two seconds someone would bump into me!

    Live musics the same...

Its not so much the music I have a problem with - I still listen to the kinks in the comfort of my own house, but when you enter a club/gig environment theres far too many scenesters... The music now sounds very similar - I cant tell the rakes from the others from franz ferdinand from the subways from kings of leon.... theres far to many 1 hit wonder bands and far to many poseurs.

    time to move on.

Newcastl has no indie scence realy? all the big nights are the same tunes same people.

ffs they still play galvanise at stonelove.

Kristian does a decent night at the redrooms and plays a lot of new music.

id just stay clear of all the big nights.

I've been to nights all around the country (including the red rooms :p) and its pretty much the same in every city.

the more underground the night the worse they tend to be, it aint hardcore no more - its all about selling your hed kandi collection to buy the latest 2 button topman suit.

    Maybe I'm getting old :D

There doesnt seem to have been very much decent indie/ rock about for years. I don't seek it out these days, but what I do hear on the radio and suchlike is just drivel- rock all sounds the same, and indie just seems to be whiney depressing crap like Coldplay and Keane

And the bands that I DO like, such as Kaiser Chiefs, Killers and The Bravery I soon get sick of hearing.

It's not like it was in my day!

Of those I only bother with Brighton Beach these days and even that's not often. I like the fact that it plays slightly different stuff to the Killers et al which is completely gash.

That said I haven't been to either Bulletproof or Stonelove since they shifted venues.

Rather than nights like that I've started going to more gigs, either at the Academy or just local bands playing in pubs and it's loads better, and in the case of local bands cheaper to get into and just as enjoyable with decent original music.

I think the over enthusiasm for also-ran bands like kasabian, the coral, the zutons, the subways, the bravery, razorlight and in particular kaiser chiefs has made me pretty sick of what they call 'indie' for now...

not to mention the god awful new bands like the others, be your own pet, longcut, the go! team etc. filling the shelves of HMV with their generic crap...

I've got to the stage where i'm really not arsed about any particular kind of music.. the limits I go to are checking the new releases in D&C, the guide or vice...

Seems every genre I get into which is genuinely fresh gets either trampled on by the proletariate masses, or just turns into bile rising self indulgent crap - iron and wine into james blunt..

I think it's the same problem with hip-hops nights, the crowd only dances to the tunes they recognise and the same thing happens at Indie nights hence they only play 'new' music once the tunes have hit the masses via internet, radio, mtv etc.

I guess that is the advantage of 'dance' nights people are more open to hearing new music?
