What are these bars like on a Friday night, and what's the dress code - specifically, are trainers allowed?

Spent most of my life avoiding these areas of Newcastle but it looks like I might be going there for the sake of a friends birthday celebrations.

The dress code is generally overpriced jeans, a silly mullet-like haircut, and some kind of retro-rocker-slashed type t-shirt ..... oh yeah and dont forget an incredible air of self importance that utterly defies belief, despite working in a widget factory or similar nothern nu-sweatshop type industry.

You'll be well sorted in those bars if you keep that in mind :D

I might just get some cans and wait outside.

Attic - not particularly nice. Poor beer, tacky decor, terrible music, and loads of hairdresser-types in similar, uniform-like attire. Also a lot of public school students who think it's cool the be into funky house. Lots and lots of Dame Allan/RGS/Church High sixth formers tend to hang out there.

I've never been into The Establishment, but it's bound to be similar to all of the other bars on that street, probably full of weekend millionnaires, fork lift drivers and the like pretending they have money and drinking overpriced Veuvé Cliquot.
I've actually heard this street dubbed as "Millionnaire's Row" by a few charvers, so make of that what you will.

Still, it's what you make of it innit. It could be worse, your friend could want to go to the Bigg Market or The Gate for their birthday...

Nice one. Nothing worse than having to wear shoes, especially since I don't own any.

What about down the Quayside? Do many clubs/bars there not allow trainers?

Can't remember the last time I went to a bar in the Quayside to be honest. This night could well be cut short in favour of a trip to Wax:On.

Me, Tom and Paul were knocked back from Establishment about 18 months ago for wearing trainers.

    It was called @Home then.
