I thought it was legit due to address and had halifax logo etc on top of email but just on the off chance it wasnt called Halifax to double check before responding. They advised it is not as no bank would ever put that kind of information in an email, and have forwarded it onto them for investigation. The email and address it came from looked real, cant believe i almost responded without checking, can imagine there is a fair few that do
aye Ive had a few of them, always check the email address of every banking type email I get now. Sneaky fuckers! Got one off "ebay" first and fell for it "someone has gained access to your account, please log on and change your password by following this link" They never got anything tho
tbh, if someone had gained access to my account i'd be pretty pissed off if the bank was giving them 24 hours to take all my money
Yeah it was on watchdog months ago, I've had a few even from banks I dont hold an account with. Watchdog have been told of all major banks that they would never ask for personal information by E-mail and not to respond to them. (I'd imagine this would be the same for smaller banks and building societys). It's also been happening with E-bay and paypal. Some poor buggers will fall for it though. Most of them dont have the web page secure icon at the bottom of the screen either which is normally a padlock or somthin like that.
Once the banks find out about it though, there pretty shit hot at getting it stopped. Normally by the time you read the E-mail and just out of interest click the link it wont work.
