    Beach raiders

    I'm assuming everyone's heard about that beached ship down in Devon and people flocking to the beach to nick generally pointless crap - people are coming away with motorbikes but I saw a video earlier where someone nicked a fucking empty barrel and said they had another on the way.

    Apparently "the word on the beach" is that a storm is on it's way Thursday night, so people should be down there before 7 on Friday morning before the police come to loot a load of nappys or whatever they steal.

    Exactly, I agree entirely, they are clearly enviromentalists, doing anything they can such as taking motorbikes to sell on ebay in an effort to save the dolphins.

    In the papers the other day the press were making jokes and more or less saying it was ok and they had to do this n that NOW it's a totally different kettle of fish (pardon the pun) and its appaling and they should be ashamed of themselves?

    3 dolphins have washed up too. It said in the paper that they arn't sure if it's because of this ship and the fuel. :lol: Why else would we get laods of dead dolphins washing up on the British coast. :lol:

    isn't it part of ancient law in this country that "anything found between the low tide watermark and high tide watermark is yours"?

    not sure if thats completely correct but there seems to be a lot of confusion on the law over this.

    Absolutely disgraceful. These things still belong to people! There were personal crates on there too - there was a couple emigrating after 32 years of life together, and they were taking all of their stuff, memories etc with them. Now it's all gone.

    Nope. For this sort of thing you can take what you want, but must register that you have taken it. The rightful owner can then claim it back.

    The damage that has been done by people is appalling, by pulling apart crates and leaving what they don't want strewn all over the beach and surrounding areas. It would have been much easier to clean up if the crates had been left in tact.

    There's no crime in taking the things from the wreck as long as you report it.

    Surely the motorbikes and such could be traced without too much fuss?

    It's still bang out of order. The time and expense involved in trying to get everything back from those that have taken stuff and reported it will be immense. And let's face it, the majority of stuff won't be reported.

    It's just taking advantage of other people's misfortune.

    according to the scavangoing laws set in the 13th century anything washed ashore by shipwreck can be claimed by the person who finds it . It wasnt until 1995 that they changed the laws slightly statin that people had to declare what they found and fill out an official scavaging document meaning if the true owners wanted to claim it they could . Failure to do this can result in a £2500.00 fine for anyone caught .

    So technically as long as they declare the goods taken there doing nothing wrong :D

    I bet 99% of the people here wouldn't say no to a free BMW motorbike if the law says it's ok :lol: My dad would probably gimme his Fazer in return :D

    Apparently there was chemical waste in some of the carriers though :s
