    Book recommendation......

I've decided that my knowledge of history is seriously lacking so I want to get hold of a book that will give me a rundown of the main points of history. I can then determine which bits i want to focus on from there

    any recommendations?

save money cruise wikipedia until you find some period/civilisation that interests you.

i love reading old greco-roman historians like josephus... but they'd bore the arse off most people.

I enjoy reading about Hannibal, and how he fucked the Romans up.

Plus marching elephants over the Pyrenees is a pretty awsome achievement

I don't think you'll ever get anything like that, unless you make it more country/region specific. Even then it might be difficult. Sounds daft, but have you thought of more of a children's/school book?
