British Muslims want there own Courts

In today’s 'The Guardian' newspaper, 30th November 2004, a poll published by ICM /Guardian printed the results of a poll of the views from 500 randomly chosen ' British ' Muslims asking what they would like to see in the future in Britain for Muslims.

In a piece of journalism that can only be classified as ' satirical plausible deniability ' the Guardian reports that of these 500 Muslims 40% said that the Islamic Community needed to do more to ' integrate into British life ' but then quoted that 61 % of the Muslims polled said that they wanted the introduction of a system of Islamic Sharia law for civil legal cases involving only Muslims to be introduced in Britain.

Ask them what they want and they will tell ya. They know it will never happen and is not plausable in this country. We make many allowances under the british law so maybe that would not be so out of the blue or outragous. Not convinced tho.

Ask me what I want and i'll tell ya I want a bottomless bank account and to be infallible in the eyes of the law but it aint gonna happen ;)

Well I don't like our laws either but I'm quite happy where I am thank you very much.

I bet you're hating the one about not being able to kill an "intrurder" in your house, but you're not going anywhere.

Anyone (muslim or not) wanting to change something that doesnt need changing can piss off. Amending or modernising laws and rules to make them fairer is perfectly fine. Why shouldnt religion be taken into accout under british law?

I agree with that but they shouldn't have one law for them and another for everyone else.

Agreed, everyone should be tried equally. I think some things go a bit deeper than that tho and particular social factors (like religion) have to be considered.

But I definately dont support a seperate islamic court, or a jewish one, or hindu one etc. The justice system and laws we have in place may not always be perfect, but they work for the majority of people in Britain, regardless of race/religion.

why shud they get their own courts because of their religion.
i agree with alex to be honest. they shud all be tried by the british justice system if there in our country. not being racist but i dont think that in their country they wud permit christians or whatever to have their own courts.

besides, I found the survey and surprise surprise it didn't quite say what the BNP said it said. What it said was that 61% agreed with the statement that "So long as the penalties do not contravene British law I would support Sharia courts being introduced in Britain to resolve civil cases within the Muslim community"

    Harper -

    That's all really.

Don't see why they should have their own courts though. You should accept the laws of whichever country you choose to live in, and therefore should be tried in accordance with said laws.

It's nowt to do with racism Craig, so speak freely :D

Imagine giving Americans their own court, for example. "I'm sorry your honour, I am allowed to carry an Uzi back home" etc.
