    Clubbing Today

is well in decline i think. when i first started going most nites were full and had a better atompsere than now that was 3 yrs ago.

2day i find that mosty clubs are struggling, i dont know if it's just me getting bored but i get the feeling that the whole thing is well in decline.

tis a government conspiracy, creating the commercial cheese trance and the such for the nu breed of clubbers, turning them into ikon going ian van dahl loving party people!!!! Keepin them contained to alcohol and away from the drug scene of real club culture thus leaving our clubbing society without the up and comin fresh faces it needs.

Its either that or everyone just wants to be a DJ these days! ;)

lol, trust me, after the djing, everyones doing the promoting thing now too!!!!
thats why ive given up on that. Im taking a break, doin some research and getting some influence from around the UK i reckon, then make a return with some money, a fresh approach and sound and something exciting and different.

Its funny tho that Shindig is still as strong as ever, true house music has never really dropped i dont think, i think it must be levels of maturity and open mindedness with musical genres these days. I mean ive even moved on to loving my prog, tech house and funky house now!!! must come with age ;)

i dunno, read this months edition of M8 magazine , it has a couple of pages on this subject, and its spot on, talks about club music getting too big at one point an the only way to evolve is to get back to where it started......worth a read...pages 53 and 54!!!

I'd noticed that too and I suppose it could be part of the reason why other places ain't doing as well cos a lot of people will go to there mates night to give support (which is fair enough) but it could also leave em muchos skintos so they can't go anywhere else.

There's too many clubs around now, and with the abyss of sub-genres that the dance music scene now is, few places fill.

A few years ago, I think people were less clued-up, and clubbing was clubbing, but now it's gotta be a certain DJ, or certain night, or certain style, or you won't bother.

It's sad, and to be honest I'm guilty of this myself, but it's very true.

The day of the superclub was over a long time ago, the 'bigger small nights', are in reign now.

EXACTLY!!! hit the nail on the head with the problem up here.
see, the problem here is, theres too many djs wanting to make it and break it, and to do that the one way everyone sees is to host their own night.
BUT, thats also backfiring on them cos theres too many djs doing that now.....so what is the next step?? what is the way forward??? believe me, those that know me know ive tried all these things, and i gave up on Naughty cos i realised all this. Im taking a back seat from it all, doing some research as i think the whole scene, just like everything else in this world, has come to a pause for now and is waiting for something fresh and new.
    Patience is the key.

Superclubs and super dj's ruined things for everyone..... granted i love going to see big name's when i go clubbing - but we have the likes of the big arena gigs and gatecrasher to blame, and dare i say it.... Ibiza.

The hype pushed prices up, nights costing 20 quid for the average punter just to get in, and drinks for 4 quid each... people spending 100 pounds just to go clubbing etc.

This and the new breed of young people and their "neo monied" outlook on entertainment, spending 1/3 of their income on friday and saturday nights - funded bars like revolution and all the other high brow wannabe bars that have flooded newcastle.... The bars in "The Gate" seem to have hit the peak in this respect.

Then i guess we have clubs like promise who cant afford PVD twice every month, trying to compete with the average person who doesnt want to go to a club unless they see a AAA dj on the line up - and lets face it, we've all been indoctrinated this way in the past 6 years some way or the other.

I guess we might hit a fall out soon, with some big name clubs going bankrupt..... i think the smaller more intimate kind of clubs probably need to do the same thing that Shindig does,.... concentrate on what they do best - granted they get "big" names in, but i wonder how much more expensive these dj's are compared to the likes of the uber superjocks like Tiesto etc.

Ahh well thats my take on it :)

its only really trance clubs in my opinion, where attendances are down.

sunny d is always rammed, and so are all the other techno & prog clubs clubs i visit.

trance became too mainstream, now it has to re-stablish itslef or risk being lost and confined to the likes of ikon forver. ;)

Couldn't agree more mate, I can't wait for something new to come on to the scene now, nobody that is doing new nights (no offence) IMO is bringing anything new, they are just covering old ground!

Never heard that government theory before but it does make quite good sense! However its sad to learn the truth that all todays youngsters are all growing up into beerboys.

Is this the future of clubbing? (I was browsing last week's baja pics, apologies if anyone knows these 2, but this is the face of 'clubbing' today)

It looks likes one of those pics off the trades website. Anyway, my point, the charvas are growing up and dragging the quality of clubbing down with them

i cant be arsed to read all this, but it all pends where you are, clubland in London has never been bigger... if u enjoy the harder beats, but its cos the crowd are mainly made up of tourists, South Africans, Aussie etc. which are constantly being pumped into London...
