    Connecting mixers to PC's

Does anyone know what equipment is required for this and where to obtain it. I would rather run a mixer through my PC than fork out for an amp and speakers or powered speakers!

An amp is bacially just POWER......... any OLD amp will do and will sound ok! It dosnt need to be owt fancy!

You could spend £15 on a 15 year old Amp and £10 on some second hand speakers of the same age & they would sound great!

I have a nice silver amp here you could have for £20!

running your mixer through pc speakers doesnt sound shit at all! So long as you got some decent speakers there is no problem. I do it all the time as a sub-output.

All you need is a standard RCA cable (with the red and white ends, the ones you use for your decks) and a mini jack adapter.

Take the rca cable from your sub-output, usually called sub, master 2, or booth, and run this to the LINE IN on your sound card. Go into windows sound properties, make sure line in is selected and turned up, and there you go.

do what the pike says... get yerself along a carboot sale or cheapo student pawn shop, pay £15 for a 70's seperate stereo system and speakers im silver with bbiiiggg round buttons - the retro look is cool for the studenty types - and the sound ill be good too.

Spot on. Not only does the retro look make you look cool, but the kit was made to last in yon days. These days they design certain stuff so it will have a lifespan then need replacing.
Find one where you need two hands to turn the volume knob.
I managed to get myself a full system of 1970s silver technics seperates. Made in Japan. Got them for nowt off a mates grandad who'd just 'upgraded' to 'one of them new-fangled compact disc thingys'.
The amp is a neighbour-rattling 260w per channel. Can't turn it up past 3. They don't make home amps that powerful anymore.

Aye, they don't make em like they used to ...

I run my decks through my PC soundcard and then through my PC speakers. Which are 400w RMS THX-Cert units. It does not sound shit at all, 126 db sustained SPL at 1 m and no distortion up to about 122 db, ie nearly full.

Not top end hi fi but better than a lot of high street shit. Ask my neighbors, one of which threatened to get me chinned by the Conroys if I didnt keep the volume down >=)
