I heard rumours about this at the weekend. Can't believe Cream will close. I've only been once but it was one of my best club nights. :(

I'm a bit gutted that Cream is closing cos I have never been, how many more nights are there and when is the closing date? On the other hand I am glad that another money grabbing club is going downwards, Cream, Crasher and MOS have tried to suck clubbers dry for the past few years and deserve all they get IMO!

I'm just glad Promise are doing well (I think/hope)! :D

    Cream Group Annoucement

Due to a shift in dance trends from nightclubs towards large-scale events and festivals the Cream group announced today that it is entering into a 30 day review period to assess the future of its nightclub operation at Nation in Liverpool.

The company has experienced first hand a significant shift away from the weekly club nights towards the highly successful large-scale events like Creamfields and Cream X10 arena tour.

The Lomax Live Venue will continue to trade from the premises unaffected. The section of Nation that Cream traded from will be closed for the rest of the summer - reopening for Cream residents night on August 31st, a private party on Sept 14th and Creams 10th birthday on October 11th and 12th.

Creamfields Liverpool will be unaffected and the company will maintain it’s social and charitable commitments.

Quote from James Barton CEO Cream ...
James Barton C.E.O. β€œ10 years on it is time to re-evaluate where we are as a company and assess where that fit's into today's market. It's clear that young people want so much more from the Cream experience. This is evident from the massive success of Creamfields over the last five years, the popularity of Ibiza 2002, and the success of the Cream x10 arena tour this year.

In 2002 we brought investment into the company with the aim of growing the company and now we are perfectly positioned to develop into new forms of events, music and media.

The company is making deeper in-roads into TV with our highly regarded Creamfields shows and Ibiza TV Series.

Cream has also heavily invested into radio with Absolute Radio under a exciting new brand called Jump FM. 2002 has seen the company release more records than previous years and with the investment made our activities will continue to grow into 2003. Alongside this our international events business produced over 400 events this year and a further 4 Cream fields festivals means that Cream continues to be a forefront of global youth culture.”

    Cream Facts.

    400 Club events worldwide.
    Four Creamfields Events Worldwide.
Record Business in UK, North America and Australia.
    Partner in Jump FM.
    TV Production Company.
    Trading for nearly 10 years.
Brought in major investment to grow the Group and expand the brand into Music and Media.
Cream has sold more albums in the first 6 months of this year as it did in the whole of last year.

    Basically....

they are bringing out more comercial albums, theyve got there name accross as a big club and the place to be.So theyve acheived what they wanted, fukk the followers, fukk the serious people that come to cream every week.thanx for the money, were off to buy an island.

    Unbelievable.

This comes as much more of a shock than Crasher.

Cream attracts such a diverse crowd.

They throw their own parties like they should have done in the first place. If you don't like it, stop complaining, fuck em, and do it yourself :)

Sad to see Cream go as so many people saw them as a more credible alternative to the cash cow c**ts at MOS. Must say I've had some wicked nights with them around the world over the years, but this has been a long time coming really - they are too big an opperation now to work on a small scale.

Kinda pleased in a way as it puts a big spanner in the works of Liverpool's culture bid, meaning we have a better chance. Some rediculous percentage of students who studied in Liverpool chose to go their because of Cream.

There's gonna be some mad shit going down in Liverpool now that Garlands has burnt down too.

agree 100%, and think some of the superclubs have overlooked or ignored this..... the reason GC and Cream are/were so huge is because of the undisputed loyal fan base they have which is generated from the weekly nights! Without which they couldnt fill 40,000 festivals or sell their CDs on the massive scale that they do.

but once they lose the weekly nights they'll slowly but surely lose their customer loyalty and very quickly find they can't fill the festivals or sell CDs by the bucketload any more.

Just makes it easier for the likes of Promise to step up and fill their now vacant shoes :D

yes must say i was rather shocked to hear this as welll as techno said cream does attract a more diverse crowd wif there been diffrent styles off music there all the time as welll me thought it would still be ok!!!

cream x 10 arena tours seemd good but isnbt this just a phase the tours will eventually die out soon as well!!

but muchos shocked to hear this tho!!

I don't think companies like Ministry and Cream will lose CD sales because of it. Ministry will just lose CD sales cause theyre CDs are getting shitter every year. :p
