Decisions Decisions! cant decide on a mixer, need help fellas!

    right, heres the situation....
i want to get a new mixer for christmas and im limiting myself to £350-£400 at the maximum.

at the moment im torn between a DJM400 and a Urei 1601 E click for pics & info .

obviously i would like the pioneer for the reputation, build quality and whatnot but the Urei is a hundred quid cheaper, still has effects AND im looking to get a pioneer efx unit at some stage so by having an effects send/return function i could do this. the only problem is that ive never used any equipment by urei and i dont really know what theyre like or if it would be worth it?

just wanting to know what your views are and if you could recommend any other mixers in the same price range that would have effects etc...?

Reclined with my feet up !
smigs once played it safe with a cheaper mixer to save a few quid, opted for the beringher ( sp :spangled: ) similar to the djm600 , played with it for a week and sent it back along with the rest of the cash for the djm600 instead !!!

Said all the effects sounded exactly the same !!!

Pioneer mixers are pish (only ones worth considering are the 300 , 800 or 1000)

    the faders arent accurate
the eq's dont actually do anything
the build quality isnt very good

    how much is your budget?

    Check out Allen & Heath - Xone 32 : about £320 i think

only problem is that it doesnt have Send/Return which you need if you want to use an EFX to its best (i.e be able to effect the channels individually).....tbh I used to absolutely bum my efx500 but i got rid of it because the novelty wore off...the only effects that should be used are echo loop, delay and a filter imo

Effects are a waste of time imo. Can't argue with that A&H comment though.

Another vote for a used DJM600!

I had a vestax PMC 37-Pro and quality wise it's superior to the DJM600. EQs are sliders though which some people hard to get used to, but the range of the EQ is massive. Also has filter effects.

I've got a Vestax PCV 275 and tried to set up the EFX 500 using the send/return but the effects sounded shit for some reason so ended up just hooking it up using the phono plugs.

    I'd go with 2nd hand djm600 also.

The Xone32 is probably the 'better' mixer, but I don't like the metering on it, the metering on the DJM600 is so much better and the gain controls aren't on the back of the mixer like on the xone, I also don't like the cue/pgm pot being a slider, but that's just a weird preference of mine.

I think the DJM600s are nice to use, they might not be the best piece of electronic engineering but they sound ok and they last as long as you don't abuse them. They get too much stick imo.

the quality on the send/return isnt that great on that mixer, i used to have the same problem

ps you wont get a 2nd hand DJM600 for £300....if you do then theres something wrong with it

If you just want a 2 channel mixer then theres a 2 channle Xone mixer aswell

trance_fan - ive got the PMC37 and its the don...filter are rubbish but the eqs make up for that

a thing going in favour of the DJM is that alot of music venues have them so you wont be lost when you start playing out

Only efx i used on my dnx1500 was the high and low pass filters. All the others were only used 'in private' when i was dicking around (flanger for instance).

I would say surely one of the biggest things to think about these days was some kind of MIDI control/compatibility since everyone seems to be hooking their stuff up to ableton and stuff these days?

fair point but if you plan to play out using ableton etc then thats no good unless you want to cart your mixer about everywhere you play

best off getting a seperate controller unless you're at a level where you can demand certain setups

Check their homepage - some new looking thing that wouldnt be out of place on the starship enterprise.

Looks pretty nifty, although costs 250 odd quid.

I dont understand why anyone would want to use Traktor over Ableton if you havent got it setup to work with time encoded vinyl
