What happened to the decent nites promise used to have on? Before all the kiddy trance dj's being booked now playin tunes you would probably hear in ikon in three months time! Its music for 14 year old german and dutch school kids and its rubbish

What happened to the underground vibe nites of the tyrant boys, pappa etc? I've been reading some of the dribble written on this board over the last few months and the only reason you get is that it wasn't good 'business sense' to keep booking these dj's. Not enough feet on the dancefloor.

Since when has that been what clubbing was all about? If its all about money and pulling in a few more punters why not change the music policy to that u might find down baja?

Some muppet said promise is doin it's own thing. "its not a gatecrasher or a twilo/renaissance" they said. RUBBISH! The music policy is hardly anything new is it. And is the club breaking new ground. You would have to say no.

Promoters hear me! Dont sell yerself out! Dont create a club similar to the goings on at that gods kitchen nite at the arena. Loads of beer boys and tops off meat heads with crap music too. Its not about money its about running a club because thats the scene you love being involved in.

Bring back the tyrant boys and all things dark, dirty and twisted and less of this castles in the sky shite!

    Nuff said.

Shindig play house music its never been a tyrant sort of place or even prog.
The point I think farmer is making is that promise started having more prog and underground nights and are now playing all this crasher stuff

It's all very well saying that it isn't about money, but you try to run a club when you're paying more out than you're getting in! Won't last for long.

I thought clubbing was about having a good night out, not being a music snob! Have you forgotten where it all started? If people want what Promise are putting on, then what is wrong with putting exactly that on? If you want the type of night that Promise used to do, why don't you do it yourself rather than complain about someone else not doing it?

if you dont like it then its simple dont go. theres no point in coming on here and saying that you dont like the music policy at promise. theres nothing wrong with critcism if its constructive but to be honest i dont think yours is. you are in the minority with opinions like that so somehow i dont think they are going to listen to you and change the whole direction of the club just to keep you happy  the vast majority of people like promise as the way it is and myself wouldnt change a thing about it, me loves it just as it is also :D

    *rant over* :p

Sorry, another little point to make. You say it's about being involved in the scene you love. What about people who love this scene? What should they be involved in?

i love thing all trancey and crasher so i am totaly loving promise at the moment.

judging by recent crowds, alot more peeps are loving it more than they did when promise was going in a prog direction.

im not slating prog but why change a winning formula?

    long live trance!

    Re: Developments@Promise

Well, where to start, I'm sure Mark will reply to this but he's on his holls until Friday so Ill do my best.

It really is quite simple, not enough peeps like tyrant (in the NorthEast) to fill a club as big as Foundation. Now you could say that that is selling out but what else would you have us do. We need to make money to be able to put the night on in the first place.

To say that running clubs is about anything but business is naive mate, it needs to be because the ones that aren’t about business don't usually last long.

I personally also like what you describe as 'underground' music but you and I are few and far between. I also find that allot of the peeps that like this sort of music don't go out much these days (including me) as they are 22+ (usually) and are getting a bit board of clubbing.

I promise you, if it was workable to put Tyrant on they would still be playing as they are great guys & great DJs but Promise needs to be profitable or it wont exist.

If you think it's easy to run a night anywhere outside London in a big club that has 'underground' music playing why don't you do it. I would come down, just not that often.

    :)

    Re: Developments@Promise

Who the fuck are you calling muppet... lets look at your post and see how much of a muppet I am....

But before we get into that - how many nights do you know with the promise feel - an amazing proggie warm up by either of the ressies or Guests like Pappa and corvin - then moving through to a hard trance even techno sound from the likes of 00 Flemming, Mauro Picotto, Eddie Halliwel... But it isn't just the music policy that makes promise different... its the people and atmosphere - just like the crasher kids in crasher... promise punters give promise a very special and underground vibe.

    What?!!?!?!?!?!?

First off promise is a business... If it doesn't make money, the nasty boys at the bank take it away... no money - no club... not rocket science dear boy.... Promise need feet through the door to stay open.

Lets not forget promise started out as trance club then Promise tried progressive, they had a progressive policy for about a year - it FAILED! People wouldn't travel for the night and geordies weren't interested, the club was always empty...

So instead of scrapping progressive like crasher virtually have - they adapt they fuse progressive with trance and create their own music policy, which forgive me for saying fooking works... I've never known anyone who I've taken to promise - be they a prog head, trance cat or even fucking goth - tell me they had a shit night... however much you whinge - the new promise works...

What?!?!?!?!? Both Mark and Richard have a huge passion for promise, they don't see it as a job! They don't see it as big business, they are putting on a night they take great pride in - not another Baja!!!! Maybe they would prefer a dark twisted underground progressive club - I can't speak them - but I do know they aren't lottery winners... therefore the club needs to make money....

Promise in my eyes is starting to stand on its own two feet - its finding its own music policy (prog through to trance) and its pulling a new crowd (who don't stand around modeling evuisu jeans - be they beerboy or clubber - they're out to have a good time)... Promise isn't another GK, Gatecrasher nor should it try to be another Twilo.... Its PROMISE and if you don't like it - fuck off!!!! TWAT

Oh, and one more thing. I have no problem with you posting this sort of stuff. One thing that you will of noticed if you come on here much is that we do listen to our customers, if enough people agree with you then it may well happen. (No promises) :)

Thanks for the though provoking thread chap.

I personally don't think farmer was being constructive... he was voicing his opinion there is a big difference...

he basically told us that promise is now another baja's trying to be crasher or godskitchen and that the people this attracts is muppets...

In my eyes that isn't contructive its arrogance... I think most of your posts have been constructive Davey as are robs... as you respect other peoples opinions....

Farmergiles strikes me as another progressive snob like bob pointed out.

lol nope... but I wrote an essay for that 2... wrote an essay for this un...

    Heres a suitable quote though:

"Why do all "progressive" fans have to show their love of the genre by slagging off every other music? Thats not very progressive, is it? Also as Muzik is not staffed by the Borg, there are a variety of opinions expressed within it. Liking Sasha, Digweed et al doesn't stop us getting fed up with endles prog DJ tools made by band wagon jumpers" - Muzik - Dec/01

Rings so true don't it - not to stereotype but so many progressive heads feel the need to prove to you how superior and intellectual progressive is... I go clubbing to have fun - not get an education

and I have fun at promise :D
