    DJ Agencies

Does anyone know if there are any local DJ agencies around Newcastle etc? I'm looking for the credible type, not those that supply karaoke and cheese spinners to your local.

    Cheers people!

I'd say there mainly a waste of time TBH. Especially the ones that charge you for the pleasure of putting you on there books without even a gurantee of any bookings. which alot do!

Fuck that! I wouldnt pay anyone. They should be taking a cut from going out and getting the DJ bookings.

You'l find quite alot ask for an upfront payment to represent you. I looked into a few awhile back and they wanted between £55 and £75 per year just to put you on their list. Ridiculous........ Better off promoting yourself.

in my recent attempts to find a new agent, i've discovered that agencies wont do the work of an 'agent' and expect you to either have a record out thats popular, or already have too many bookings to cope with and use them to look after the bookings for you

ive come to the conclusion that all these 'hi-profile' agents are nothing but booking agents, and not agents that will look after finding you work

if you're looking for club work ie. bamboo / baja / liquid style clubs, Eminence Leisure hold regular auditions. just dont bother with them if you're not a 'talk/party' dj even if they tell you they're looking for all kinds of dj - i made that mistyake and ended up travelling a 600 mile trip the other month for nothing

self promotion seems like the only way forward until you hit some luck or produce a top 40 track... just keep in mind eric prydz, fedde le grande and calvin harris. none of them put together anything like what could be classed as good music, but due to the success of their tracks, they now dj worldwide

    hope that helps

Cool advice Jase, cheers! I know what you mean about the high profile artists, their agents do nothing except answer booking requests and organise paperwork.

But I know that there is certain agencies that exist who will promote you though. I guess I'm looking for somebody who is really clued up about different scenes in different areas of the country. Even if they can't get me any gigs they should be able to point me in the right direction.

I gotta get out of sunderland, its killing me.

Everybody I've met on here will deffinitely confirm this.

Anyway... hi djpeteb, thanks for the pm.

ian is right, I am currently running a DJ agency, recently working with Evolve, Detox, Freaky Dancing and a whole host of other non-local nights to secure people gigs in and out of the region.

I don't take your money upfront, anyone who does is most likely a scam. If I like your mix I will secure you a slot and take an amount of the pay you recieve.

I've PM'd you a number, give me a ring and ask for pete (same name how weird is that!)

    Good luck whatever you do.

    erm have you?

no problem if you want to provide such a service, but all freaky dancing bookings come through me & I don't remember booking anyone through you... (correct me if I'm wrong, it's entirely possible it's memory at fault:wink: ))

rossy, I like you , you are a good lad and a laugh BUT!!!!!

I HAVE NOT worked with your "agency" and will unlikely book local artists through your agency that you tell me I have to pay for thru you long after after it is the likes of me and gav who have put most of them on the map by taking the initial financial risk oursleves with lineups these locals would never get onto with other promoters in the past

if someone asks me to pay an agent a fee for someone we have showcased before they got booked by said agent I will just go and find some other local talent much more deserving of the slot

i will only deal with agents when its essential to do so

agents are why clubland ultimately is doomed in the uk

re: payment - so in most cases that will be nowt cos 99% of local djs that want to get on play for nowt to get the slots and most of the nights tend to reinvest nearly all the money (if they make any in the first place) into future parties

if this wasnt the case, me and gav and a host of others would have retired to the sechelles by now

the only people making obscene money in this town are the club that is to dance music like mcdonalds is to burgers

Melt I know we had a bit of a fall out when you never paid your DJs that time but there is no need to deny any business relationship between us.

djpeteb, I'm sorry that you've had to read all this, unfortunately melt has never been one for business ethics, on the plus side you won't be playing at Detox.

If you'd still like to give me a ring on the number provided and ask for pete, that would be great.
