    DJ mag no. 1 DJ....

Judging by the Matt Hardwick board, its looks as if Mr Buuren has won the number 1 DJ spot this year :)

    Has he ever won it?

PVD's been shambolic this year and for a while so deffo doesnt deserve it and as far as others go i cant think of anyone that stands out - Tiesto's just same old same old as well.

Saying that i am only naming Trance DJ's there probably cos i dont really follow any other genre as strongly.

    IMO.

i think that tyas or shultz should have scooped it.

shultz cos he's a mint producer and fantastic DJ and tyas because of the volume of productions he's done this year, and because he's a class DJ as well.

but this list goes on the people choice tho. and people - by definition - are brainwashed munters.

    Who???

Shouldnt it be someone who has a mint record collection, can play more than one sound all night, can read a dancefloor and actually makes more than a few trance lovers dance?

This is not the 100 top producers poll.

On the contrary, although I agree that a lot of voters are "brainwashed?" munters, I'd say that's the only reason I'd ever really expect that Markus Schulz or Sean Tyas should would ever win the DJ Mag Top 100 (even though it's shit).

Sean Tyas plays sets consisting of every anthem he's ever made, which get cained by a now quite large amount of similiar trance producers/DJs and from what I've heard of Markus Schulz it's pretty much trance friendly progressive trance and electro, like the boring stuff you'd expect ferry corsten to play at the start of a set, but just for about three hours. Hence why they only seem to play at Trance clubs, whereas the proper prog DJs could play pretty much all over.

I know it's all subjective, but imo they are just not remotely worthy of being crowned the worlds number 1 dj. It would be something akin to DJ Dan or ATB getting anywhere near the top.

yep. however this is all about personal opinion. and since the scope of this poll is MASSIVE, the stronger culture/genre prevails.

its a shame really, because if it was all about having that mint record collection etc it would definately NOT be a trance DJ - at all.

somebody technical, that does new things etc. a DJ that makes people leave the club wondering how on earth he was doing what he was doing....along those lines.

armin van burren is not one of these, and as far as trance DJ's go, i dont really rate him tbf, he was canny at global - but not "i'm the best DJ in the world" standard.

but since trance is quite large now, trance DJ's will sit on top of that list until something comes along and pokes it in the eye. shame? yes it is - do i care? no.

armin will be creaming in his pants now like - he'll get all the cash now. or he might do a tiesto and do "shows" like the TMF awards.

i'll have to find that one! its pure cheese! i dont know how he can bring himself to do it

Dont be fooled Rossy mate, I shared the exact same veiws until seeing him @ Armarda, the guy is absolutly banging.

Armin ended on the Coldware remix of communication having the crowd absolutly in bits. On steps Schultz to which i thought: "here we go,an hour & a half of send me to sleep"

...2 track in SVD's remix of Direct Dizco, it only got harder from then on LOL.

I can see where your coming from tho, his radio sets are proggy, but live it's as if he's a different DJ:spangled:

haha yeah, I've saw sets when he ended on Stoneface & Terminal I think.

That's sort of what I mean though, direct dizco and similiar electro/tech trance type stuff don't do it for me at all. I like Tyas though.

Ableton has killed PVD, for other DJ's, I.e. Hawtin, Sahsa etc... these use it how it should be, as a tool to enable them to do so much more bringing something new to each set. All it's done for Van Dyk is gave him the ability to play tracks where ever he wants, regardless of BMP or tempo, in turn creating ropey sets that are like a roller coaster of a ride in regards to building like he used to do untouchably a few years back.

For me Van Dyk is a bit lost these days in reagrds to music genre, there was a time he could do a mix packed with every track totally unknown to me & all absolute bangers! now, it's a bit of house, electro, trance, old classics?
He can blow me away like he did at Crasher a few months ago, but dissapoint me 2 summer seasons in a row? you never got that years ago.

I was just listening to his essential mix from the Casino Berlin in 2000 this afternoon & cant help but think - WHAT WENT WRONG

Yeah but imo the calibre of trance itself has dramatically dropped since then, you can't play sets as good without the tracks being available, it's all too samey nowadays.

    Nar, I disagree.
Trance has never been so good, production quality & so frequently released since around 00-02. Granted styles may have changed but theres a shit load of quality stuff out there.

Look at it this way, Van Dyk must get sent just about EVERYTHING from just about every producer on the planet, he uses 2 laptops most probably packed with most saught after tracks you could want & still manages to dissapoint, it shouldnt happen. When years ago would he ever think of releasing some of the tracks he recently has man, Justin Timberlake.....?

The past 3 years iv'e never been dissapointed with any of the following trance DJ's: Halliwell, O'Callaghan, O'Bir, Tyas, Askew, Armin, ....... theres the goods out there & availible, it's weather you choose to play them really?
