dj's and their stupidly huge fees!!

twocked off julesys website but its sooo true tho!! i agree jules!! lol!!! wunder who hes meaning tho....??!! it is sooo badly shocking tho aint it how much they charge!! any ideas who hes meaning...??!! s'pose it aint that hard to figure out like!! heres the article anyways!! :-

"At least four of the world’s top ten DJs are bumping up their fees by forcing international promoters to offer auction style bids for their services, Judge Jules revealed this week.

“One leading progressive DJ would rather stay at home not DJing if he can't get a
£10-15000 fee, and regularly sits at home on a Saturday as a consequence,” said Jules.

“He should hang up his headphones with an attitude like that. I love my job so
much I'd still be doing this if it was only to 25 people.”

Jules was responding to comments Ultimate Base chief Jim Masters made last week on Skrufff suggesting many top level DJs are ruining the global circuit, though disagreed with Jim’s overall position.

“I think Jim Masters is being over-simplistic when he talks about the rape and
pillage of individual regions,” said Jules.

However, the Radio 1 DJ agreed that the money obsessed DJs are not doing the scene any favours.

“None of them would deny that the most gratifying clubs to play at are small ones, or at the very least to have an itinerary that contains some smaller gigs. But they're prepared to sacrifice the best part of DJing out of sheer greed,” he added.

“Whilst I'm tempted to name names, I hope that the guys in question take a long hard look at themselves. What did they get into this business for in the first place?”

totally agree with the bloke there like. how many djs, even off this board, do gigs for nothin just because they love it. theres a lot of people winge on about doin gigs and not gettin paid but if someone asked me to play anywhere, whether i was gettin paid or not, i would say yes just because i love playin to a crowd.

like jules says, why did u start in the business in the 1st place?
as far as i'm concerned, if ur gonna get paid for a gig...great. if ya not, so fuck!! the enjoyment of playin to a crowd is good enough for me, if i get paid its a bonus.

In no way am I sticking up for these djs who demand sush ridiculous fees but at the end of the day if you can charge that amount, and get away with it, then they are not going to stop.

It's like your boss saying to you, there is a pay rise and you replying it doesn't matter, I don't want it.

    aye, valid point.

what i was tryin to get at is that as long as you're not gonna be out of pocket at all then you'll prob do the gig. sayin "no no, if you don't pay me this there's no chance!" says to me that ya in it for the wrong reasons or you've lost ya perspective on the whole thing.

yeah, but I reckon Jules is probs on near enuf that anyways. if he was offered a rise, he wouldnt turn it down. I think its stupid to miss a gig tho for the sake of abit extra, ur jus gonna miss out on the whole pay they were offering and a nite doing wot u do best.

If these djs do carry on doing this though surely people are gona stop paying the price to get them when they realise they can get a near enuff turn out with a much cheaper dj and dont loose as much money and maybe they might start asking for as much money to play. Although there isnt much chances of that happening :p

I take it this means Mark won't have to worry about his fee next time Jules plays Promise then?

Hypocrite. He'll slate people for taking huge pay cheques, then walk away with a figure that probably resembles something like £8k for an hour and a half's 'work'.

I think Jules' fees are more around the 4-6k mark. It isn't just the DJ's either. The clubs and promoters are cashing in where and when they can. Look at God$kitchen for example.

    he is a hypocrite

he makes out as if he plays for free every weekend, which he clearly doesnt
if he is so 'real', whats with the fancy house etc. he makes just as much money as the rest, not that hes worth it

Hmm..... bit wierd trying to take the judge's word on this one.

... At the end of the day he's the DJ that promoters love to have as their headline act, and i bet he takes full advantage of it.

Not having a go at the lad but isnt he just criticising something he's actively part of?

Jules seems to do alot more uni type gigs than alot of other dj's and probably dosen't get payed anywhere near as much as he would for doing a club, I'm with him on this one, I think he's talking about Sasha in rachaels post:)

    I know what u mean.

But if they are demanding that much money, and saying its that or nothing thats when they get cheeky!

Sitting in.... when u could be playing a club, where theres hundreds of people who would gladly kiss your feet... who the hell do they think they r.....  :D

Just wondering what people feel is a fair amount for a promoter to pay a dj for a gig?

How much are the likes of Sasha, Tiesto or Norman Cook worth?

I think that if I was as famous as the above I would not play each and every weekend. I think I'd get bored of it tbh after 10 - 15 years of playing around the world.

Agreed! Plus if they do play as many gigs as say the Judge the demand would not be the same. If the likes of Tiesto, Digweed, Sasha played up here all the time like Yousef and Eddie does then they would not be able to demand sush big fees.
