does anyone at all know about this wireless networking bollocks?

coz my god im getting increasingly fed up. Plugged it all in (linksys BEFW11S4 v4) - a wireless BB router - used ethernet cable to link modem and router, router and PC. This is where the complications start.

Obv I can get online on my PC now. (this is how i can post this). I have set up my SSID, and WEP with 128bit encryption. (God knows how you set up WPA pre shared - i will probably ask that at a later date, for now i just want it working).

I would prefer to use a program i have called "config free" - (ironic I know). But for now ill try and persevere with win-shit.

Ill take you through what i did so you know if i have done anything wrong. Turned on laptop, turned on centrino. In "choose a wireless network" i can see the connection - gannin at full whack. It tells me it is a security enables wireless network, and it is not connected.

    with me?

when i look on the top right hand corner whewre it should tell me the status it says not connected, and the wireless quicklaunch icon has a red cross. Under the description of the connection it says "this connection requires a network key - you are currently connected to this network YEAH RIGHT. To disconnect from this network click disconnect below."

Clicking on advanced settings and going to properties, i see the TCP/IP settings are automatic. going to wireless networks, i have use windows to confirgure my wireless settings ticked. In my prefrred networks i can see my SSID (automatic) going to advanced - its any availible access point (access point preferred) and auto connect to non-preferred networks. In properties, the network authentication is shared

FUCK ME THAT WAS THE PROBLEM WHAT A DICK I AM.

If it's asking for a network Key - is there any fancy software that came with the router that needs to be installed on the laptop? *

    * Be Aware - i always steer clear of WIFI stuff cause i know fuck all about it. M.o.S.

check out the router manual - see if it says owt about having the 'client software' installed on the laptop.

    Probably not.

Try using 64 bit WPA instead of high powered WEP - sometimes makes it eaier to set up
