    Egypt Cottage

drove past the cottage on Friday and noticed that there is another S&N lease hold board on the egypt cottage.

The last time this appeared the venue was up for changing hands.

But malcolm only been in charge since Marh 2004, Surely it cant be changing hands gain???

    any one shed any light.

it was always dead, as nice as the pub is and u would think a lot more people would go to it they dont cos it's too far out of the town centre and quite pricey.....

the only time i ever saw it busy was smurf's 10yr celebration and the Fetish night ;)

Vuzz was semi busy in the early days but then all the other nights started and everyone got bored of going....besides it was always the same old crap...:D

Not surprised. He didn't pay our flyer bills from last April which he agreed to. Hence why we left...

I never expected owt from the cottage (money wise) like.
i used to shoulder all me overheads meself.

out of the 6 gigs we did there in 2002, the August , Nov and Dec ones had 130 - 150 people in. The managers (previous) always kinda gave you the impression you were doing THEM a favour and would always be telling people to get down off the speakers (which to be fair I frequently encouraged people to use as podiums). this new manager seemed to be the nicest one, BUTi guess in business TRUST NO ONE!

I always got an earfull oFf the manager and then come monday morning when they looked at takings theY were on the phone asking when we wanted to hire it again.

Realised a long time ago , you would need a row of people with arrows from town to the cottage to encourage randoms to drop in.

its a mint little bar and is class for one offs, but IMHO it will never pull in 100's week in week out.

as long as people realise that it can be a great little venue.

we should allchip in and buy the lease. would need someone responsible to manage it day to day like
could be first 24hr drinking den in toon

He made the offer to pay for the flyers; after all they were to help his business.

I don’t think the cottage will have long left now that Tyne Tees is moving, his lunch time trade will dry up and its not like he has any evening trade

So we should put on a free night there every Friday, bring loads of people there who otherwise wouldn't be there to spend money at HIS bar...and pay for it out of our own pocket??  :dunce:

    shadap fisher (joke),

the old management would have wanted control over what we put on them, the new management would have promised to pay and then havent done so.

I'd rather not bother (which Ididnt)

In answer to PAULS QUESTION i would say yes!

anyay i dont see the need for flyers for a free entry gig.

    buts thats a humble opinion.

posters are better, financed for free.

to me I dont understand them building a whole new dj booth and then deciding to move on unless mr landlord was wanting to get his rung on the ladder of running pubs.

it will be a brave and very clever person who gets that place to pay as a pub!

I reckon I could like, but it would mean quizz night and the like would have to end.

I wouldnt even bother opening it on some nights tho

Surprised they dont do more link ups with Foundation tho.

The worst thing about that new booth is the dodgy floor which makes the needle jump everytime someone walks past.

It's not all that safe either. Someone fell threw it when we were doing spank! downstairs and a birthday party was on upstairs. Luckily only one leg fell through. Not great for the person who was sat right under the new hole though......

Personally I think flyers are the best form of promotion there is for any night, now that fly postering has been cracked down on so hard.

And I don't think under the circumstances we should have been out of pocket from running stuff at EC. The previous management paid us to run Vuzz there.

Paying for a few flyers (which in actual fact worked out at around £10-£15 per night we put on), is the least they could have done.

the last sentence you wrote is a very good point like paul.

having said that like Gav (previous Vuzz encumbent) did such a good job of scamming money that in the end the cottage must of thought why are we paying this guy who wears a tea cosy on his head 50 quid every 2 weeks when he dont dj and do that much promotion.

I aint levelling this at you tho.

I would love to see anyone try and approach comedy jon at the fiddler about flyer costs tho. He wouldshow you the door.

FLYERS ARE ONLY A GOOD FORM OF PROMOTION if the person they are handed to is engaged in an entertaining manner,
and they provide good roach material.

juggling fire sticks, whilst handing out flyers and saying "thats good roach material" has always worked for me

We paid for our own flyers for the New Year gig we did at E.C. But we did get paid double our usual rate and Kevin (the manager then) made sure we got expenses for decor repaid. It's a bit of give and take.

Got some great memories from Egypt Cottage of spank! and Sunday Trading.

some of the classic sundays tradings were mint expecially the one post gods kitchen when tension forgot to tidy up and theres pommel horse and doctors curtain topped off with madders , rob tiserra and danny fromsundissential all piling in through the door.

I knew I had a future in the gentle art of persuasion when I blagged free drinks off Rob tiserra for chatting to him at the party the night before in jesmond (funny i wasnt there tho!)

PAUL (CNE) told madders he looked like rod hull (of emu fame)
he even asked him if he hurt himself when he fell off the roof (mr hull died falling off a roof), never seen maders as speechless as that before
