electricians where did ya learn ya trades, and what qualifications have yas got that businesses require? im after doing a self learning coure or part time course somewhere but aint too sure what or where to look. basically wanna do general electricians shit like rewiring fitting and the like. any info greatly appreciated
I think that generally, most companies out there won't give you a second look unless you've got an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship. No amount of lectures in a college can really amount to 4 years of hands on experience and a company doesn't want to have to take you on as a skilled worker and end up having to train you themselves. This is for hands on work like that at least. Generally it's harder to get them once you're 18, so I highly reccomend you ringing up Newcastle College and asking for information on their Modern Apprenticeship courses. I got a leaflet through the door saying that they are taking people on upto the age of 24/26 and putting them through an apprenticeship, with first year off the job training and then finding them a placement. I'm not sure if they've always done them but it sounds like The Vickers Training School scheme who I just completed mine (in Engineering) with. I think they might have said it was new and if so was probably influenced by Vickers who they have a good relationship with. Or if you've got good grades, just send a letter to every company you can find in the yellow pages and try to get them to put you through an apprenticeship (you've just missed the boat now though unfortunately, best wait untill some time next year).

Im a fully qualified electricain, entered an apprenticeship when i left school and was finished when i was 20. was funded by the NECC (north east chamber of commerce) There is still ways into the trade i think as my friend has just started a apprenticeship and hes the same age as me 22, but he only downfall is he goes back down to apprentice wages which is a bit of a bummer, but he really wants to do it so he not to botherd. all he done is sent letters off to big companys b4 the colleges started and he got a few replys for a interview. the other route is paying for your own couse which is normally 2 nights a week at college for 3-4 years but i imadgine willbe pretty expensive. but will get there in the end Depending on your age lee am pretty sure the necc stop taking peole on after the age of 21?? and also 3 a-c's are needed in gcse's give them a try m8 see what they say. on westgate road in town. hope that helps a bit

I was suppossed to be starting an Accountancy Apprenticeship with NECC in April went to sign the forms & everything was well chuffed until they asked my age & as I was 19 they said the government had put a block on funding for apprenticeships to anyone over 18. They were suppossed to be signing new contracts the start of September where the bloke said they were expecting it to be lifted so I will be going back over when I have a day off soon.

Aye will see wat the crack is as dont think I will be after an Electrician Apprenticeship but the people I dealt with the last time were spot on aswell
vickers are dead n buried mate... im at the school ya talking about n its now rolls royce michell bearings... absolute quality it is... got me an interview after week n a half just came back... but if ya under 19 deffos the place yas want to be!
