Families discover drugs in rooms at holiday camp

    By Brendon Williams

A HOLIDAY camp faces investigation after three families found substances believed to be drugs in their chalets.

Angry parents said their children could have died had they taken any of what they claim was ecstasy, speed or cocaine.

Around 300 youngsters, aged six to 16, were staying at Pontin's in Prestatyn, North Wales, for a disco contest at the weekend.

One dad, whose 11-year-old daughter was competing, claimed: "It's supposed to be a camp site for families, but kids could have died. One of the parents found 17 ecstasy tablets in their apartment. Another found four bags of cocaine, and another said they'd found a bag of speed.

"Don't they check these apartments and clean them? It's disgusting, especially when you think what could have happened to the children."

Police took away the stash yesterday to find out exactly what the substances are.

A spokeswoman for the North Wales force said: "We have been contacted by Pontin's and are looking into the matter."

Parents claimed staff on the site said drugs may have been left over from a rave at the camp the previous weekend.

One said: "Why the hell do they hold raves in venues where they're also going t`o stage a dance competition for kids?

"Everyone knows raves and drugs go together."

A spokeswoman for Pontin's said the firm was "very concerned" about the finds.

She said: "We are very sorry for the families involved and an investigation is being carried out at Prestatyn Sands.

"We work closely with the police at all times to prevent the use of and access to drugs on our premises. There are procedures for checking."

But she said: "We cannot confirm the nature of the substances found as that is a matter for the police experts."

It was only a matter of time IMO.

I am very surprised none of these events have been raided.

Bastards! I was going to go to number 8 too :(
As far as their search procedures go they are a total sham! The last one i went too a bloke asked me "heads or Tails" i said tails never fails, i won and he let me through! not even a pat down or quick look in my bag. (was quite pleased actually) :p

I do agree that it was going to happen soon.

But 7 events and its the first time this has happened after the weekenders. We will just have to wait and see.

Damnit I was looking forward to (if the decided on it) Cowboys and indian theme
