I had a lapse about keeping fit, but now I'mback into it again, I love it. I'm keeping eating healthily and drinking lots of water, I think I've lost a bit of weight but not as much as I'd like though yet.

Great: I haven't had one cigarette since New Years. And I've done it cold turkey through massive stressful events.

I've joined the Sports Centre nearby and started swimming again....

6 pints of water or more is potentially dangerous advice btw

never heard of Leah Betts? Remember that every single thing you drink (and some foods) rehydrate your body in varying degrees, not just water.

and how on earth does drinking ice cold water burn calories

    Cut down drinking - yup
    Cut down smoking - yup
    Eat healthily - yup
    Go to gym - yup

    Very smug.

It takes energy to increase it to body temperature.

Six pints a day isn't a hideous amount. You are supposed to drink at least two litres a day, which is four pints.

total daily energy expenditure consists of: resting metabolic rate, thermic effect of feeding and physical activity

so when you eat you burn more calories than at rest, but i wouldn’t recommend people drink ice cold water all the time as drinking alot of water speeds up gastric emptying and is therefore detrimental to hydration as the fluid travels through and out of your body faster, without it being used. adding some carbs to the drink will slow this
