How friendly should you be with people at work?

Whats everyones thoughts on their "work life" (for those of you with jobs of course) and how they get on with your work mates and things?

Personally, i try and get on well with my colleagues, have a bit of a crack going, go down the pub with everyone on a friday afternoon etc etc - but i dont want to become "friends" with them to the point where i get involved in after work stuff, and then become part of the whole social circle and things..

My lass is the exact opposite... she really loves being part of a group, and her new best friends since we moved here are her work friends...

Dunno if im an unsociable mong, but i like to have friends who have nothing to do with what i do in life - lets me have a private life and a professional one...

Anyone else feel this way, or am i a freak :D

Play football, drink midweek and have a laugh in work. Don't spend weekends with them and have never talked about clubbing with colleagues.

    Yer still a freak.

I get on with a few and dont with others, most of the people I work with have similar interests to myself.

I get on really really well with everyone i work with at the bar and count some people as some of my closest friends.....bar work is different to office work though isnt it....it's generally more sociable.

when i work in the office in the summer im good friends with everyone there but wouldnt see them outside of work etc.....u dont always want ppl at work to know what u get up to outside of the office!!

    feck awf ;)

I can see sense with that idea - dunno if you choose deliberately that you dont want to do weekend stuff with them, but i agree with that none the less - I think of work as a means to an end, alot of people make it part of their life, or become part of little groups and things.

    Couldnt hack that myself

We are like a very closely-knit family here, being a small company and having worked together for years we're all very good friends. But then I have a totally different group of friends who I go clubbing with....it's strange I've known the people I work with longer but I consider my clubbing mates my propper mates as we have more in common.

i put alot of effort into actively avoiding work social events. i would just rather spend time with the wifey and my own mates.
