How to make Vista less irritating?

My boss has just installed vista and has given me his laptop to make some necessary tweaks.

Everything you do it says "are you sure....if you did not request this say no" and its bloody annoying!

    How to turn it off?

    Seriously, i'd take it off.

Otherwise, google for 'turning off boxes in windows' - there will be a policy somewhere - there is for XP

open 'msconfig' (type it into the search menu and hit enter)

then disable UAC (User account control) ... then restart.

    BINGO.

Its hidden ... but its on the menu still.

You dont need it any more - the new search thing is actually really good!

You can search from it, but also launch programs from it - so type in 'run' or 'cmd' and you'll get the same results as manually browsing to them.

its still not as good as OSX spotlight search though.
