    Id cards

what are your thought on this?

I think its a good idea, tbf i would be all for, putting chips in everyones heads with trackers and some sort of logging, so at any time the police could find out who was were and when they were there.

    Re: Id cards

if people have nothing to hide then they have nothing to worry about, imo i can't see anything wrong with it :)

i see both sides of the argument, it could be turning us into a nanny state and who knows what could be stored on one little card, but if it helps reduce illegal activities then it has advantages.

until i see a really convincing argument for i'll have to be against them.

yeah but the right wing sensationalists claim illegal immigrants are likely to be al-qaeda terror cells... its all bullshit.

i dont see why we need them when we have passports, driving licences and various other forms of id that do the job, an id card seems a pointless sideline that we will have to pay for up front, i dont want to pay for yet another labour folly.

i heard loads of speculation, even things like criminal record, whether you are hiv positive and bank details etc etc... and what about identity fraud, im sure i read that the system being discussed wasn't overly secure... now if i'm either forced into paying for this or my taxes are then i want it as tight as a prozzies corset.

I will not be paying £80 or whatever it is for one of these! I've got a driving licence and passport, which already costs far to much to get! Experts have already said it won't stop terroism! Can you imagine the people on the dole, etc paying for thses? No, they'll get it for nothing, but we'll still be expected to pay for them, fuck that! No way, I'll go to jail rather than get one! The only time I would get one, is if you HAD to have one to go abroad, but hopefully you won't

Just like every other IT system implemented by this government I can see this one being a complete disaster.

With driving licences and passports I don't feel I need another form of identifying myself. The best solution would be to integrate a chip with biometric data into the existing UK passport

Not sure it would stop fraud & immigration issues in the long term, any system created by man can be broken by man ;) Passports can be faked, why not these...

You can sell anything to the thick, brainless masses of britain these days by insisting it will 'protect' them from whoever the latest bogeyman is.

65 million people, and each record has a 49 different elements apparently, ranging from simple text for the name to complex fingerprint/retina scan.... they can't even write software to run the ambulances in london without it crashing every few weeks.

    complete abortion.

they'll easily be faked in no time... cloned like SIMs... phah - they reckon it's so you'll be able to get NHS treatment - so they'll stop you in A&E if u don't have a card?

and for terrorism? the london bombers were UK citizens who never even hid their identities - would it have stopped 7th july? would it fuck.

more pointless legislation... they argue it's for these reasons, but it'll end up for some nafarious subversive reasons, like tracking....

It's also possible the government have lost complete control of who is where and what are they doing hence brining in a new centralised system.
